It rained last night, I don't have to drag a hose around except to water green houses. You have no idea how good that feels. Ah but it is the little things in life that make me happy.
I'm only half done watering but need to take a break from the sun. I still have a couple of flower beds to do and the green houses. There was a time I couldn't even do a green house I was so sick. It was very sad. I let a mosquito in here and it is bugging me. I don't know where it came from, there are none outside.
I need to get out, since I'm getting cabin fever. Hopefully I'll make it to the gym this time, and do shopping. I was going off the rails looking at figuring out how the rule of thumb of rainbarrels figures out that "...1 inch of rain gets 627 gallons of water from 1000 square feet...." but I did it!
I wish I could focus on the main project of the porch, but sometimes I hit a "wall", due to boredom or tension...hard to tell. Its seems more feasible to install these as an irrigation system, helping me reduce the labour of watering the plants. There's just installation time.
Davit..I hope you got your fountain up and running this morning..I love the sound too..Just plugged mine in..
Hugs...I think your flower is prettier..Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say..
I decided to change my pic again this morning..This is a pic of the flower beds that we replanted this year..The plants are more to scale for the small back yard..We put in some drought resistant ones this year and replaced the lilies with lavender this time around..I was not sure how it would turn out but have be pleasantly surprised with how nice it looks.
I think I discovered what that strange plant which I thought was chives is. I saw a description of it having a top like a dunce cap, so I feel I finally found a plant that I have something in common with. I pulled it up not knowing what I was doing, but didn't see a bulb, so I stuck it back down. I suppose it hasn't grown since I didn't pay much attention to it for a couple of years.
I directed a downspout near it making a moat, and to some roses, so they'll be easily watered by the rain.
Oh God, the fountain, I need to put it up. I really do because I love the sound. I want it on the house though so need to mount a board to screw it to.
I'm glad to hear that about Lavender because I tucked it in where ever in the flower bed.
Yes plants are like people, some just can't get along. Some need their space or they don't do well. And some like the Daisy and Hock Weed kill their neighbours for their space.
Davit, Thanks for the info about the lilacs turning brown once the flower are spent..The info about companion planting is very interesting..I never thought about it before but it really does make sense..Plants similar to people in a social sense in some ways. The rose can stand alone very well but does not mind company where as the lavender seems happy in groups or with other plants..My lavender seem to love dancing together in the wind together. They are magical and quite entertaining..
Hugs...Love your new Pic..Just beautiful...
As for gardening around my place. I repotted some plants on the patio this week and we got the fountain out of storage yesterday and set it up again..The birds love bathing and splashing around in it..
It was a very busy week with lots of exposure and I find myself tired today, so today I am going to let myself rest a bit..
Algae need sunlight to grow. Look at Lee valley gardening catalogue for sealed rain barrels and down spout kits. Just for ideas. In the fall bleach and rinse your barrels. I had sealed blue barrels in one of my green houses with no problems and a greenhouse will grow all kinds of crap. Right now mine is growing ants, the eggs came with some manure.
Everything but a few marigolds is planted. Still might spread peas on the summer fallow as a green manure crop. That and a few other left over seeds. Now back to moving asparagus and strawberries. Rain stopped and the sun came out and is wilting my transplants. Supposed to be nice Monday then back to more rain.
