Hello again Davit!

Thanks for the tips on the barrel. Edd is enjoying it and the contemplating of ideas it evokes..He is always mulling over ideas in his head and on paper. He was a gas and diesel mechanic for over 40 years..He has a love for tinkering as I am sure you understand being a man..Thanks for the offer of a refuge in times of a great storm if it is ever needed you will be first place on our list..A commune for others with anxiety disorders is a interesting idea indeed..

Well it's off to the big hardware store and then for a drive out to nature for a relaxing walk..It maybe time for a little trip again soon..Once I am done with the Dr. appts. around the middle of next month.. I sure am looking forward to a break for them all. I don't have to travel at this point to relax anyway..Just need some time away from them and when I do this, I always feel so much better...Maybe I'll do a little fishing..I love fishing..especially when it's cool out..Rainbow trout is my favorite..Lite poles and gear..

I figure the criteria for survival is having something no one wants. Even I am not safe here. There were plans to flood this valley for more power and to divert the water through a mountain into Kinbasket lake. The Frazer normally goes through the centre of BC down through Vancouver to the ocean. My property would be under 100 feet of water. It would mean relocating 2500 people and their farms, but that is bugger all on paper. Also the first nations put a claim on the valley that got shut down. They never lived here. The valley was thought to be haunted. But to everyone it just looks like money.

There is one consolation. By the time all the fighting is done I will be dead and my ashes spread.

The problem seems to be increasing population so there will be more taxes. This is a pyramid scheme where the many support the wishes of the few. The problem being that there have to be jobs. I remember the scare in 2000. People bought generators and propane stoves and fridges in case the grid failed. But every thing needs power now. Even pumping gas and propane.

There was one wind powered water pump here and it worked fine. There was one wind powered generator, it didn't.

There is one wind powered air compressor that runs a water pump. It runs fine to water cows. There are a few water powered generators that produce lots of power. And there are lots of gravity water systems.

If it ever comes down to a crunch, just hook up to your trailer and come here. You will at least be able to eat. People here are getting serious about heritage seeds and saving them. They are also stockpiling Ammunition. Hunting regulations go out the window when people are starving. And the Salmon run here.

But all of that aside it is best to be prepared but best not to worry too much about it. Like the weather. Forecast now says a week of rain. It would be fine if the garden was planted but it isn't. I'll just get muddy and wash lots of clothes.

I haven't even planted my squash yet.

And something for Edd. You can generate Methane in a barrel with an inner tube for collector and run diesel engines off it and propane fridges. You can make methane out of anything that can be composted but makes more out of manure, peoples or animals. The sludge left over is high in nitrogen.

Water and power does seem to be one of the critical issues affecting our future on this planet not to mention,

Monsanto and their GMO seed and crops..Have you thought about using a Windmill to generate power to run your pump..just something Edd mentioned..He has always wanted to have a property with a Good Well and a Windmill to generate power to pump the well or you could reduce cost and have a mechanical windmill that just operates the water pump.

Getting off the grid as much as possible may become a necessity of the future..We were just looking a getting a generator the can run 220 this week..We have a couple of generators and one is half that size. We used it to run the refrigerator during the last black out we had..Always looking for alternative power sources and water supplies. We have been working on getting prepared..We have two fifty gallon drums that can hold extra water in case of emergencies and we also have a large surplus of canned food plus dried beans, rice and such. Plus we have the travel trailer we can get into and get out of the Big cities if we have to, should a emergency arise, plus those two extra 50 gallon drums of water that we can carry with us..We keep one filled and in the dodge dually at all times..Just in case..:)

This world is changing and so are we as we age and prepare for it..but at the same time we are trying not to worry so much about it that we can not enjoy ours lives in the present..It is a balancing act..

Love the new avatar!!! Are those your Hostas? Good thing I'm not a detective, it took me a bit to figure out that you changed your picture. I was on the Forum page and looked at the line of avatars and my eyes gravitated immediately to your beautiful flowers and I put my cursor on it to see who's avatar it was - and it was you! Okay...hmm...I'll blame my lack of detective skills on being 100% caffeine free. I bought my own Keurig personal mini coffee maker that has K-cups, so I can enjoy decaf coffee whenever I like.

I didn't realize the Columbia River went all the way up to where you are. We went out to Oregon to visit G's family and we drove along the Columbia River and saw the fish ladders. I rarely if ever feel car sick, but with the bumpy road and the wind blowing side to side along the Columbia River, I had to pull over and take a Dramamine and wait 30 minutes for it to go in effect. I felt like I was in a mild paint can shaker :-) Good thing we were going by RV and not a buckboard with horses :-) We also went across the B.C. border (before passports were needed) to meet a lady and pick up a Japanese Chin dog. The lady I got the dog from told me not to tell the Border Patrol that we were picking up a dog, so I told them we were delivering a package. Well, that didn't go over too well. So, I told him we were getting a dog to save on shipping her by air and then he said why didn't we just say that in the first place and he let us go. The package I was delivering was a painting I did of a Japanese Chin for the lady who I got the dog from. Had less problems getting back into the States, but were asked a million questions and we were hoping they weren't going to say anything about the 3 dogs (we traveled with two of our own as well), but needless to say we made it back. Wow. Long story longer :-)

50 miles from me is Kinbasket Lake. It is on the Columbia river and has a Hydo Dam. This water goes to California along with some of the power. Our power has doubled because there is not enough for both of us anymore. And the lake is getting lower. We have a number of generating stations on other rivers feeding the grid to help and we fear that BC Hydro will be bought out and all the power go south. We are preparing. It could happen, Canadian National Rail Road is now American. My water isn't free because I need power to pump it. Some people do have gravity though. Just one more thing to live with, and I do. Like you said life is too short not to enjoy it.

I had fresh garden Asparagus for supper. I'm moving the plants, there are forty.

Not much going on with the gardening today...picked squash this morning.. Watered this morning and this afternoon.

We have a small garden here in California due to the high cost of water in our state..We are watering the lawn less this time around and just keeping it alive and using most of our water for growing vegetables and flowers this year..Our water and sewer runs at least $300 bi-monthly as it is..The price keep going up and water is becoming more scarce in the southwest and here on west coast too. So having a garden is really a luxury for us..

I may cook up a little stir fry for breakfast tomorrow morning....Sautéed red onions, zucchini and yellow squash with steamed asparagus on top..always a favorite..It has been a lovely spring like day today..

I woke up this morning to silence. No rain. It was supposed to rain, it looks like rain. Had breakfast and crawled up on my bigger tractor and tilled the place the Asparagus goes. I did it a while ago but did it again so it would be easy to dig. Asparagus crowns need a big hole. Well I got 13 moved before the rain came and now it is pouring again. There are forty to move so that leaves 27 more to dig up. Back to the greenhouse after my coffee. Yeah I'm having coffee this late in the day. A no no but I'll use the excess energy to move manure. I was supposed to go to town for plastic but don't like to waste good weather. Now I'm wet and muddy so it can wait till Monday. No big deal. There is lots of work to do before I need it and I'm not putting it up in the rain anyway. Coffee is good. There is some blue sky in the west but tomorrow is still supposed to be rain. I love the sound of rain. There is something essential to it. And because it is necessary it doesn't bother me when I have to go out in it. But some times enough is enough. Farmers will be happy for it. If it doesn't rain all summer that is. Most years it is dry and the hay goes past prime before it is big enough. Imagine the frustration. But I don't make hay any more. If you like the smell of fresh cut grass then imagine a whole field of it. Heaven, then it gets rained on. Yuk. I mow my deer pasture just for that smell and I don't care if it gets rained on. There is something calming about spending a couple of hours doing something you like too. Some days I loosen the dirt in the flower beds just because it looks good. I used to till between the rows for this same reason when I could still follow a tiller for an hour or more. I guess it is attitude, some would just see this as work.

It is pouring finally. Supposed to rain for three days then some nice weather. I'll catch up in the greenhouses. I got the carrots planted and the onions and the manure in the green house so I'm happy about that. For those of you down south I'm not late. We normally plant between the 24th and some time in early June. Theodore looks out the window and goes back to sleep, he is not going out there. He is not as happy about the rain as I am. I love the sound of it.

This is a little like CBT. Instead of changing thoughts I will change area. As a last resort there is always house work, it seems there is always housework :-) There is always something to do. So why aren't I doing it? Tea break, I'm multitasking. Farmers market may be wet tomorrow. Todays definitely is. We have two different markets on two different days.

Hmmm. The sun is trying to poke through. Doesn't matter it is still greenhouses today.

Hugs, I like getting something for free. I started with one Monkshood plant and now have 22 by dividing it over the years. Same with most of my perennials. My asparagus could use dividing. I keep giving away Raspberry canes. Unfortunately I keep collecting too. I once traded Raspberry canes for Lilacs. I got the better deal. Two of my Apple trees were free.

I felt overwhelmed by all the work to do in the garden, since it's cosmetic compared to the other chores today. It does have to be declutter though, so I can look at it that way.

I need to read about thinning hostas, which are busting out. There a wisdom about thinning which I keep forgetting, since I hang on to things. It states that when you thin out things like plants, or declutter, it makes room for other things. It's hard to grasp, since I see removing something, even as insignificant as tomato seedlings in a vase for planting soon, as 'violent', but that's not the case, is it? I have trouble getting rid of an old spring-loaded pull-shade,as I balk every garbage day, too.

Cluttered world makes a cluttered mind, it seems.

I love Jasmine but can't grow it here. It is another nice day but it is not going as planned. Had to move a tractor and since the mower was on it I cut some dandelions. I was supposed to be planting carrots. Roto tilled a couple of beds for onions and beets etc. Tractor hydraulics were low so I added oil and of course spilt some. Washed it off so it wouldn't collect dirt and since the hose was in my hand I watered flower beds. Now it is lunch time and I still haven't planted the carrots. I'll do that right after lunch. I think! I did plant the peas though and found more seed. Where to put it? Flowers are getting close. I'm getting hungry. The day is lovely. I'm going to have a cup of tea on the deck with my lunch.

Hugs, I looked at the site but I'm too busy right now, maybe tonight. Last year My sewer froze because it was uncovered beside where I want to pour concrete. One of the concrete guys is no good the other two are busy.
