No if there is a gasket. My hose on my wand goes on pipe thread at the wall but has a gasket so no tape.

Davit, It sounds like I should plan first, and I was going to do that, but I'm bushed after a week of post storm activity. I think the adrenalin has drained me, since I needed to be on alert for some time. I also watched my brother use a shower wand holder, I was going to discard, but it was okay. Inside around the rubber ball, there is a gasket-like thing, which has a space. It's in the new one too, so I think it's intentional, for circular motion of the wand, not water sealing. Imagine that the store kid told me I cracked it! I guess I'd worked with a person who made stuff up as she went along. I hate when that happens. Does a pipe need Teflon tape if it has a gasket?

It is one time use only. A big can did a half inch gap six inches deep and about eighteen feet long around the french door we put in. A small can will do around a door or a window or two. The rusted out body on a car. Every electrical box in a new project. It is harder to get into walls after the drywall is around the boxes. It cuts easy with a knife and every hardware carries it. It comes in low expansion or high expansion. The high expansion will push a door or window out of alignment use it sparing and make multiple passes. It sets up fast.
DAP is a company name that carries it with their sealants. I get mine from Home Hardware. You can walk from crack to crack using a bit her and a bit there but it will set up in the straw if you wait too long. If you have to you can waste a bit every few minutes to keep it open.

Hi Jenn, Davit, and friends, I'm not sure how to use the canned stuff, but I understand it has to be used by a date. Also, I'm not sure how much much time you can let pass. Is it "one use", only, or can you keep it for a week, etc? Jenn, don't worry about feeling compelled to do daily reports, since I almost feel I'm feeding my need to be compulsive about certain threads. eg. the daily quote. I wonder where to draw the line? As for the thread on daily learning, I think it can let us evolve personally. Yesterday at the doc's office, I learned a sense of control, after I was informed how many people were ahead of me. Deciding to count each person ahead of me gave me control. And since it was an evening appointment, I slept so deeply! Mom is so nosy though, and it's hard to deal with her insecurities, since we lost power, and the city was on a near state of emergency. We were better though, since we only lost power for a night. She was worried as I left, that the power would go out again. It's manipulation, I guessed. I'm drained from shovelling, worrying, and I actually worked out yesterday. That time at the gym could have waited. I do feel sorry for those who are still struggling, but I'm not going to watch news, unless it's necessary. And I never watch CNN.

Hugss4u, there is also a product called "DAP" its in a spray can with a little straw.  you spray in in gaps and it expands quite large.  May be a good idea instead of the foam you are using???? just a thought

I forgot to mention that styrofoam mixed with gasoline makes a very good napalm. Good for lighting brush piles or what ever your imagination can come up with. Even better if you mix in some kerosine or use jet A1. Why do we turn everything useful into a weapon.

For small leaks that don't show the industry fix is spray foam. It is used around doors and windows under the trim and around electrical boxes. Beside and behind, not in them. A can goes a long ways but you have to use it all at once, you can't save it. It also comes as a glue that reacts with wet surfaces and expands. It is water proof when dry and denser than Styrofoam. Thin sheets of styrofoam can be moulded with a hair dryer. No open flame as it burns. Gasoline and solvents turn it into a slimy gooey mess. Ants will build nests in it. It makes a good filler in combination with spray foam.

Today I learned that the definition of organic is what ever the specific countries industry decides it is and therefore it means nothing. In Canada pressure from industry made a rule that a person has to be certified to be organic. Certified organic isn't even close to what I am.
In California ground must be one year free from spraying and chemical use and twenty feet from non organic ground. Some of these sprays stay in the ground twenty years. Find me a place where the wind doesn't blow. What pollinates corn?

Today I learned that studies show there is no difference in quality or taste between organic and not. But today I learned organic doesn't mean organic so unless you grow it yourself don't waste your money. If you think super bugs in hospitals are killing us,wait till we get super real bugs on our plants.

Today I learned that man can still be the most selfish stupid murderous animal of all the species. And I am given no choice but to live with it.

Today I learned that the oldest still functioning religion is worship of the dollar with the most followers. Followed by, as long as it isn't in my back yard.

Today I learned hope is like organic, it is a matter of your definition.

Davit.

Realism and pessimism aren't that far apart any more.

There is a space which I plugged up, between the stair to the basement to the second floor, which was leaking air. Plugging it with Styrofoam, which is brittle taught me that in the future, I should think about the implications of what I do. One poke and the air space is broken, so I may have to do this again. What is wonderful is I discovered two parallel storage spaces, although I had the creeps wondering if something dead would be lying around, and it's so dusty, but I wore a dust mask. A carpenter can imagine a wonderful hinged door, which could allow space. I'm glad that's over, for now. Patching isn't fun, but it's been cool, and this could stop a draft,...from there anyway. It's just a building stated one renovation course instructor.

Hi Jenn,
I found some insulation yesterday, while taking a walk, since I thought it could  fit into some drafty space in the wall.
Today, it seems ideal, and with a sharp knife, I can trim and use it.

What I tried and discovered, is that if I blow on it(gross since I picked it out of someones trash on the street, but I'm a bachelor and it was subzero weather so wasn't it technically sterilized?), it seem to be porous.  Some kinds are porous, but then googling showed they're used for-
drinking cups!

And it is used  for insulation!

Can't wait to plug that space up.

I did take another walk today, and of course, EVERBODY is throwing out their trash from all the stuff from "normal" people getting real gifts!!

It doesn't take much to please me.
