Hi Colleen! I had a crazy day yesterday and I could not stop crying. Everything seemed wrong and no matter how much I tried to tell myself it was just the quitting, I could not. The best advice I can give is to be kind to yourself and let those tears flow down your face. Express your emotions. Scream and yell if you have to. Let it all go. Treat yourself right. Be kind to yourself and remember that you are doing yourself a wonderful favor, giving yourself a gift. The gift of health. Hang in there. Stay Stong. Hi Colleen, Nothing wrong with the way you feel at all! I can't remember a day of this quit where I haven't felt tearful, but I have no regrets about that. When there's something wrong in our lives, we often suppress our emotions until things are better and I think that's what happens during the quit. Tearful does not have to mean unhappy. I don't think you'll come unstuck; you have a fantastic quit there and will soon be on the Beach. (Now I started myself off again). Big softy - Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 103 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,100 Amount Saved: 772.5 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 5 Mins: 28 Seconds: 9

Dear Colleen I am sorry I am late answering this! from us at SSC How are you today?? I hope better. Emotions are another big change for us smokers and these new feelings can be very over whelming. You are also close to the proverbial 100 day crave. Learn how to cry and let go of these feelings. That's what tears are for. Cigarettes have replaced a many of tears for us long time smokers. Guess its time for us to join the human race! You have good reasons to cry. Let us know how you are feeling today. Also any minute now we will celebrate your beach arrival! Colleen- What a drug, nicotine. Both a stimulant and a calming agent. How perfect....and how devastating over time. I relate to what you're saying; my "pick me up" and "calm me down" modes don't seem to exist anymore now that I'm facing the real world off nicotine. Everybody says it gets better with time. We just have to believe them and stay quit- besides....what an incredible quit you have going! ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 97 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,912 Amount Saved: $873 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 1 Mins: 36 Seconds: 11

I'm so glad that you are doing better today - we just have to be on our guard. Glad you liked the wave...sometimes I just go and sit and watch them - it's very relaxing and thinking comes much easier then. Take Care! I'm proud of you! Colleen - Let it out...crying is supposed to be a cleansing thing. Come here and vent - we are your virtual punching bag. But most of all Protect Your Quit. We are learning how to deal with raw emotions - it's like the waves rolling in. Sometimes we get knocked down by the waves and then sometimes we dive into them. The only times we get to jump them is when we are in shallow water - once we wade deep into our emotions the same thing happens - sometimes they knock us down and and that will throw us for a loop. Sometimes we can just dive into them...deal with them and go on about our business. But as non-smokers we have to find new ways to deal and new ways to dive. You can do this - you have come so, so very far. I'm proud of you my fellow knight! Colleen Get a squeegy and let the tears flow. On of the toughest seeming parts of quitting and I know for me this is true is that our emotions are so much closer to the top. I smoked down years of my emotions. Good Idea to just let it all flow. Knowing that we coped in a different way in those times and we can cope, live, fly in a healthier way in these times. Glad you posted and AELepage makes great glue. Big Hugs sent your way. Keep going and the journey does get different. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 99 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,986 Amount Saved: $742.5 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 4 Mins: 28 Seconds: 32

Hey Colleen, don't be ashamed at making a post, this site is all about quitting and if posting helps you do that then great. We all have tough moments no matter where we are in our quit and we are here to help you in the same way that you are here to help us. Fantastic stats btw. I hate the fact that I am posting a message like this - but I also feel like if I don't I might just blow up! I know that sounds so extreem but that's how it feels. I've smoked my feelings away for soooo many years and now I'm not doing that so I'm left to deal with these feelings and I feel like I don't KNOW how to deal with them. I know that I need to relearn that its OK to be sad ... its OK to be mad ... its OK to be 'whatever' but ever since I was a young girl I was taught that it wasn't OK and I have continued that crazy thinking up till now. I feel like I am out of control. I can't seem to stop the tears. I'm not depressed and I am in the care of a therapist ever since a robbery at work. In fact that was one of my biggest reasons for quitting smoking - to help the therapy be more effective. I know there are no magic formulas for this. I know I just need to let these feelings out - let them wash over me - some people would say they are liquid prayer. I even know that its all a very GOOD thing ... I just sooo don't like it. Its a very messy business. Thanks for listening.
