Chicken...go ahead and vent. Say anything you want. That what this site is for (well, within reason of coarse). We all need a place to let it all out when we quit. Especially when we are faced with delimas such as yours. Remember, everything other members (including myself) say are strickly our opinions. You know what they say about opinions. Take what you want and leave the rest. One thing I promise you we will NOT do is give you permission to go back to smoking. We are quit and plan to stay that way. You should as well. That is my opinion. Take it for what its worth. Ultimately...It's your choice. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 241 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,833 Amount Saved: $843.5 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 7 Mins: 7 Seconds: 0

Chicken... We all quite by choice. Each and every day, no matter how long we have been quit, we have to reaffirm that choice to be smoke free. You have to protect your quit at all costs or you are going to lose it. Only you control what you do. You get to decide how your husband's smoking will affect you. There are several members here with smoking spouces but still they choose to be quit. You can do the same. It's all about choice. Hey Chicken... It's a horrible addiction. Just continue to be a good example and I'm sure evenutally your husband will join you. He probably wishes he was where you are now with 2 weeks under his belt. The decision to quit is a tough one. I actually contemplated it for over 6 months before I finally said That's IT! and just did it. When the desire not to smoke, outweights the desire to smoke, he will quit. You just do what you have to do. Life is full of disappointments whether we smoke or not. Hang in there and vent to us anytime you need to. That is what we are here for. Meanwhile..... ChickenStix, Congrats on your 15 days!!! Ok, so your hubby didn't quit when he said he would. Fine. Time to let him know that his new "smoke room" is the great outdoors. Yep, he can smoke all he wants as long as its OUTSIDE!! No, I'm not joking. Yes, he has to "find his time", but in the meantime, he can take his addiction outside. All is fair in love and war, and you are at war with the Nicodemon. And don't let him guilt you into letting him smoke inside or tell you it's his house too, all that junkie crap that he may come up with. Smoking is a filthy, disgusting addiction and he needs to take it far, far away from you and your child. Oh, and smile the whole time you are laying down the law. ;p One more thing.. tell him that if you find any of his cancer sticks laying around, they will get drowned in the sink. ChickenStix, Hell, we all loved the nicotine at one time or other. It's all the baggage that a love affair with the Nicodemon carries with it... Lung Cancer, Mouth Cancer, Throat Cancer, Emphysema, Heart Disease, coughing, chronic bronchitis... you get the picture. Keep that beaten attitude and you will be right back there, hugging the old skull & crossbones. Stop letting your husband drag you down to his addicted level!!! His love for you and your love for him won't mean a damn thing if one or both of your gets ill from smoking!! Think about it!! You aren't playing a game here.. this is your life you are dealing with! Get the big picture in your head. Stop the pity party that hubby is an addict and you might as well join him! You said your quit is for you, so KEEP IT!! If he decided to run off a clift, would you follow?? Of course not!! Come on.. get the attitude! Let him know that you will not stoop to his level and that you will stay quit! How much are you worth? Are you worth more than a pack of cigarettes? Are you worth more than the addiction to them? I agree with Joe -- if you aren't committed to your quit, over and above what your husband or anyone else does, you might as well just give it up. You are allowing your husband's addiction to define who you are. What if he was a crack addict? Would you decide you have to smoke crack, too? There are many of us who have quit and our spouses haven't. Be strong! Seems to me if Pam's family has a designated smoke room, they have worked out the issue. Family strife isn't good for children; neither is divorce. Everything needs to be worked out with reason and compromise, not with someone establishing a rule with no input from anyone else. Rusty

Patty, Joe knew when he wrote that that I would be disagreeing with him. :) I just don't believe that it's a good idea to "lay down the law" on your husband. After all, you smoked in the house up until the time you decided to quit. If you suddenly create new rules, without discussion or compromise, you're likely to force him into a defensive position and he'll never quit. I'm with Josie on this one. In the meantime, grouch here as much as you want. He'll quit when the time is right for him. Chicken, Grouch today if you want! In time your husband will come around, if he is forced to do this, chances are he won't be as successful. Take some time for yourself and relax, you can do this! Keep Strong, Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team.
