Thanks everybody! It's amazing how those little benefits of quitting can be so subtle that you don't even realize them. Shevie, no I have no plans of competing at this time or anytime in the future. I swim for my own enjoyment and that's enough for me. When I was competing a couple of years ago, it was in a city-wide competition with hundreds of companies around the area in like 20 or something different events and all age groups and it didn't really matter how well you did it... participation was key. If I ever had an opportunity to do something like that again, I might, but as far as competing individually, I'm done doing that. I don't dedicate enough time in the day/week to it to make myself any good, and I'm OK with that. :) I think competing at this point would take more effort than it's worth or that I'm willing to put into it. Kaiser, for me, the reward IS being able to do that! I'm thrilled to be able to swim 30 minutes continously, much less with a decent time, so that's a reward in itself as far as I'm concerned. :) Thanks everyone for your support! Crave the Quit! Went swimming tonight. I started off freestyle, as usual, at workout speed (for endurance)... not racing speed and for the heck of it, looked at my watch before I started. I usually don't do that because I'm not concerned with my speed. I'm more concerned with being able to swim for 30 minutes continuously than I am with how fast I do it. I don't race anymore, so I don't really see the need to track my time. Well, I swam a 100 without flip turns and at about 80% speed (workout speed) in 1 minute, 16 seconds. That's pretty good! 2 years ago, the last time I recorded my speed swimming (when I still smoked) I was at 1:36 for a 100 freestyle! And that was racing speed!! So, I finished my workout and then decided that I would do it again when I was done with flip turns at racing speed. Now granted, this was when I was DONE with my workout and was tired. I decided to do a 200 at racing speed and did it in 2:21. Not bad! 2 years ago, I was at 2:58 for the 200 free (I got online when I got home and checked the website where it was recorded). So, I'm prett happy with myself and my progress that I've made since quitting. Now, I think I'm going to start paying more attention to my speed when I work out and see if it keeps improving. It's just amazing to me the improvements I've made without really trying! I was just so tickled, I had to come post about it!!! Crave the Quit! Muscles work so much better when they have all the oxygen they need huh? I've noticed a lot of changes in me too. I can do stairs with no problem and I move around the yard when I'm doing yard work. My wife says she can hardly keep up with me now. Best part is I'm not winded all the time. Keep us posted on your times. Butterfly, What what a difference! Glad to see that you are feeling fantastic :) These types of threads can really show everyone the difference the quit can make. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
