Vent time....

Congrats for your 134 days Mom! I can't imagine not smoking with a smoker in the house; you must have the willpower of steel! I think that Danielle is right, though, in that if you don't establish some middle ground, you may inadvertently start a war you don't want! Aren't there some fan driven febreze air fresheners you could use, especially near his clothes? And to think, WE smelled this way, and we really didn't care what others thought, or we would have quit much sooner! And certainly, when I was smoking, any nagging had the opposite effect. But we sure do smell good now! Keep up the great quit, and come here to vent any time! Oh how I can relate!!! My hubby was supposed to quit with me too...he was the one having chest pains. He smokes about 2 cigs a day and nicotine lozenges. Then his body goes through withdrawls and he is crabby!!! It is like a rollercoaster with him but he will not give it up. And the smell.....I just try to keep my mouth shut. But yeah he just stinks!!! I try not to nag, it would of not made me quit. Do not have any answers but I know what your going through!!!! :| My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 59 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,486 Amount Saved: $206.5 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 18 Mins: 51 Seconds: 18

OOO ERRR!! Sounds like war!! If my wife had done that when I was a smoker(Hey hear me WAS!)I would have thrown a wobbler! The problem is he does not know he stinks (we didnt )lets not get on our high horses too often. We cant influence smokers unless they want to quit BUT thinking back my wife's constant nagging(she has never smoked) worked after 50 years of smoking so perhaps you had better start nagging now. Hi Kim!! No, I think you handled it perfectly!! We had some bills to pay and there were these ladies who worked in the back. One was literally covered in smoke. I was gagging the whole time. The receptionist took our payment and I couldnt help but lift up my sleeve and show her my patch. She asked how long and I told her. Then deliberately she repeated everything I said to her, outloud so the other woman could hear her. The smells are horribly irritating and quite honestly, I want to get sick from it. I can smell smoke I know what seems a mile or more!! I shudder. I am very proud of you for taking that stand. He has the right to destroy his health but not the right of you or the family. Hang tough and if ya need an extra frying pan, I have 3 cast iron skillets, a small quart sized cast iron, a muffin cast iron, and a bunch of cast iron lids =) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 295 Amount Saved: $58 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 14 Mins: 25 Seconds: 27

Cheermom, venting is ok here, that's why we are here to listen to you and others. I can understand that it's so difficult for you because your husband still smokes. Just keep on telling him how much it stinks and maybe he will be more thoughtful. I do have to admit that I never cared about non-smokers though. It didn't even cross my mind that they thought it stinks....lol. But that was then now I don't like the smell at all. I hope you go on the way you do now, be proud of yourself cheermom. hugs from Holland xxx My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 201 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,041 Amount Saved: 592.95 Life Gained: Days: 27 Hrs: 17 Mins: 45 Seconds: 31

Cheermom, you are doing the best thing for yourself. Keep going, hubby will follow your example eventually. Febreeze everything in sight even his coat. I agree with the cigs in the toilet LOL that'll teach him ;)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 128 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,926 Amount Saved: $512 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 22 Mins: 34 Seconds: 40

well, yes,we didn't know we stinked!! isn't it strange, that now it disgusts us!! yuch...bliax... anyway, you can't convince him to stop. you can only ask him to respect your effort and try to be a little more carefull. i'm getting crazy everytime i come home from a coffee or from dinner and my clothes smell.. i don't put them back in the closed anymore. They stay outside, till maybe i wear them once more or i clean them soon. tsk tsk tsk... come here and vent whenever you want! we'll be here for you! Cheermom, Vent away! It can be stressful having a smoking spouse. I'm sure if you keep flushing them down the toilet, he'll quickly learn to hide them. lol. The only thing I can suggest is to keep trying to find some middle ground with your hubby and keep setting a great example for him. Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

Thanks to you all for your support. I am "getting over" my attitude and I did have a talk with him last night. I flat out told him I have an attitude and that I just dont like the smell. I also made him change and take a shower before we went out to dinner (my kids loved that lol) and that I'm sorry I am so sensative to the smell now. He actually said when he smelled it (remember he quit for 2 months) he loved it and that is what got him smoking again. But I had to kindly remind him that now that he smokes again, he doesn't smell what the kids and I smell and to be courteous of us if we are to be courteous of him. I got a clothes hamper for him specifically to put his clothes alone in and stuck a good smelling thing to the inside of it so that way the room its in wont stink. :8|: I guess the reason I'm so sensative about the smell is it does remind me of my former life and I just want to leave that behind. Thanks for everything. You all are GREAT!!! and we will conquer the nicodemon one step at a time!!! Just needing to vent today :8o:. Having a rough morning with everything and the worst part, I left the house and my husband's smokes were staring at me. Unfortunate for the smokes because they ended up in the toilet for my husband when he wakes up. Its bad enough he decided to smoke again and now he leaves them out in the open. Wished he wouldn't do that and I know he will just say "sorry, forgot to put them away". As for the smell, I've invested in Febreeze as was suggested yesterday and followed him around the house last night. STILL stinks though. His jacket is hanging with ours and ours stink now. I told him his stuff goes away from ours. Ok, starting to feel better :8|: Sort of...
