In my opinion, they are just the best quitters ever and so full of knowledge. I admire them too. :) You are an awesome quitter yourself Fish. You have come so far in your journey. When we begin this journey many of us doubt our ability to be successful, however, keep putting one foot in front of the other and every day you will experience a bit more progress. Quitting isn�t easy. Any one who has ever attempted a quit knows how difficult it is. Believe in yourself and do whatever you have to in order to obtain the courage to fight. Just one day at a time. That is how we all quit. The most influential thing I learned here was N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever! As long as I don�t light that next cigarette, I will remain smoke free. Some days are a struggle to stay quit and others are relatively easy. Regardless of your circumstances, quitting is doable. You can kick, scream, cry, break dishes, rip carpet out of your house, refinish cabinets, paint a wall, write in a journal, or whatever it takes. When none of that works, you still don�t smoke. Know that every thing and every emotion that you feel will pass and with time the quit gets easier and easier. When craving is over or a difficult time has passed, reward yourself for making it through without smoking. Rewards really are important in the quit process. Surround yourself with positive people. We all know that misery loves company and the last thing needed when quitting is a bunch of negative people bringing you down. Read inspirations, look in the mirror and say �I don�t smoke�. Be proud to be a non-smoker. Many spend a life time just wishing they could quit and you have quit. Hold on to that success and build on it. The purpose of this thread is to share some positive influence on the quit process. A positive attitude is just one of the factors essential in the quit process. So please add your positive influence below for those that may be having a difficult time hanging on to their quit. Quitting is a soul searching, life changing experience.... Enjoy it! Joe, The admission to be an addict was the key to realizing that I couldn't ever smoke again if I wanted to remain smoke free. We do have to be true to ourselves or we are useless to everyone! N2K. You are always putting a smile on my face. Laughter truly is good medicine and it is good for the soul. Thank you my quit buddies. It is nice to know I can always count on you. Thanks for the great thread Lady. We often can find that personal positive reinforcement within our own self when we quit smoking. I did it by sticking inspirational quotes on my mirror and carrying a copy in my purse. I also made a point of really looking at my quit meter when I logged on to this site. Doing that still makes me say WOW! I still feel pride when I see those numbers. Others get daily reinforcement by having a special friend (cyber or real) to share the journey. Many people reach out and connect while other just read and soak it in. Whatever a person chooses is what will be right for them. Quitting smoking is truly the greatest achievement of my life. AND, it was something I thought I probably could never do. I recently had a friend say, "I thought you would be a lifer", meaning he never believed I could quit. If I can quit, we all can quit. It's not an impossible tasks. Everyday of this journey, there are obstacles to bring us down. Sometimes they are our emotions (which go mental during this process, sometimes they are negative people around us (my husband recently said he wished I still smoked 'cause I was so much nicer then) and sometimes it is just the exhaustion of the ongoing battle. Whatever it may be, we are not the first or the last to experience it and it will pass. Seriously though, we spend a lot of negative energy during the process of quitting. Most of what we do is focused on what we can't do. It becomes important to each of us to visualize a positive motivation point for ourselves. Write down some of those dream things that you have had all your life. Deciede if they really are achievable, and in what time frame. What you are accomplishing right now is one of the biggest things that has ever happened in your life. It is going to touch and affect areas of your life that you never even gave a thought to. So learn to plan to do good to you. Rewards are important, they are positive reinforcement for the behavior that you are learning (non-smoking). They help relieve the sadness and the low estem you have been telling yourself for years (with help from familuy, friends, tv, government) We all learned Smokers Are Bad People! Your not bad, and its time to adjust that imiage. You have wonderful things inside you that have never been let out before. So allow yourself to be spontanious if you are a planner, and do some planning if your a "just let it happen "person. Find three positive things to say to and about yourself. "You are strong, you can do this, Your are on your way" find your own. Then find a picture that shows what that means to you.... cut it out and put it up. plain or fancy, whatever your style. Then remember to come here and right to 5 people and give them some positive reinforcement (each day) tell them they smell better, you know this because you smell better. Ask them to smile right that moment just for you. Tell them that you admire how hard they are fighting to be free. And repeat all those things to yourself. When you spread praise and perfume, you get some on yourself. Then hold your head up and be proud. You are doing a really great job. And it shows. Ahh, now what is that old addage? Can't we all just get along? Well the answer to that is NO. A resounding NO. However we can all have the manners not to respond to others while we are in a hateful mood. If you are not at your best, or Lord, forbid, at your utmost worst, then kindly keep it to yourself. There is no need to be negative or tear down someone else. You know one of the most marvelous things that has happened to me lately is that I learned God loves me. Wart, big mouth, unkind thoughts..dispite all of it, he still loves me. I am now looking in to why...why would he not only put up with it, but actually love me through it. I am aware that no everyone here shares my faith. Its alright, I don't mind. Just don't tell me what an idoit I am in your opinion for believeing. Keep it to yourself. And I will keep my mouth shut as well. But I am looking into reasons that He loves me. When I get done I hope to be better about loving others. I hope to learn from him the reasons there are to love others. Then when my compassion falls short, I will know where to go to borrow some. You see one of the things that helps to make your life more enjoyable is to have a goal. Some version of the future that you are working towards. Each cig that you don't smoke is a step into that future. You know what you are leaving behind, because you lived it and studied it. Now live and study for the future. Find yourself a goal to set and steps to work towards that goal. The more often you meet those goals then the more you will appreciate all that you are able to do. Addiction is a horrible situation to be in. And the one person we lie most often to is ourself. We justify anything and everything to hold dear to that addiction. We must admit that we are addicts and nothing short of completely vanquishing the addiction will bring us success over our addiction. We can't half quit.
