BRAVO JACKEY!!! Thank you for your sharing your story with us. You must KNOW how inspiring you are. I'm feeling quite weak, vulnerable and afraid today as it is my 3rd day, without medicine. I find it interesting that I have chosen to go Cold Turkey this time. Finding this program has really given me a different kind of strength. I check in on everyone during my work day and I am particularly grateful when I'm crawling out of my skin to be able to find solace in all of your words, stories and encouragement. 7 months Jackey....much respect for such a great and glorious achievement. Jackey, What an inspirational story you told. It made me go "oh, wow" and my eyes bugged out when i read what that doctor did, but the way that you came away from it was an inspiration, and it made me want to cry. There were so many things to be learned in the wya that you responded that i don't even know where to begin. Congratulations, and thank you for sharing! Jackey, 7 months quit is awesome. It doesnt matter what age you quit or how long you smoked, quitting gives immediate results. I think it frightening that a doctor can be so cold as to say "yea but you smoked for 20 years, the damage is already done". We trust these people and look for encouragement and guidance. Im with you, get a new doctor. I dread to think how she would speak to people with weight problems, alcoholics and the like. Perhaps she chose the wrong profession, perhaps she has lost someone dear through smoking or perhaps she was just having a really bad day either way good for you to find a new doc. As I said awhile back, my Partner and I have recently moved to the Santa Cruz Mountains, after finding our dream home� It�s been a mess of Contractors and Paint Brushes and Wood Workers and Repair Men and New Doctors. All in all, it hasn�t been that bad, but I did have a HORRIBLE time with the new doctor. I�m hoping that if any of you have this experience you do better than I. While going over my medical history, my smoking history came up. I readily admitted that I�d pretty much smoked all my life and had been a regular smoker since age 14. Beaming, I exclaimed, �But, I haven�t had a cigarette in over 7 months.� This Woman� This supposed professional in a white lab coat looked me in the eye, and with a sneer said, �Yeah, but you smoked for over 20 years, the damage is done.� I wanted to cry. I wanted to scream a profanity at her. I wanted to smack the sneer off her face. But, you know what? I didn�t want to run out and buy a pack of smokes to make the pain go away. I�ll never see that doctor again, but I realized, I�ve really found my quit this time. I squared my shoulders, and acted like a gentleman, and I excited the office while she went to get a form for lab work. If I�ve learned anything, I deserve respect for the journey this quit has brought me along, and if I can�t get it from my medical professional, I deserve a new medical professional. For the first time in my life, I�m loving myself with something other than a cigarette, and it�s a wonderful feeling. I wish the same for each of you.
