You can kid yourself all you want, but to be perfectly honest, if you're smoking anything, you haven't quit.
Quitting means N.O.P.E -- NOT ONE PUFF EVER.
Using NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy, like nicotine gum) gets you off the smokes, so that you can eventually get off the nicotine.
If you want to use a crutch, use that. But, smoking is smoking -- even if you decide to smoke your old rolled up gym socks.
