Hi Katy, and thanks for your advice about my boyfriend... I honestly don't actually think he will smoke for much longer but I am coming to terms with the fact that he might smoke for ever. I am a very analytical sort of person and this challenge has opened a whole "can of worms" as they say, I have a very strong and close relationship with boyfriend anyway, but I know that once I have worked through these powerful emotions connected with his smoking then I will be a stronger person and we will have a better relationship regardless of whether he is still smoking or not. At the moment he is not smoking much and it is infuriating cos I actually forget that he is a smoker then when he goes and has one or buys a pack, all these strong difficult emotions come back! But I will get used to it. Thanks again for all your support. Gr8 post Katy! Reminds me of myself :) I have to be careful when it comes to speaking my mind. Especially because communication like these posts/e-mail/chats, can be taken wrong so often. With me,,,even face to face people who don't know me well enough will take me wrong just b/c I'm so outspoken and have a strange sense of humor. I'm glad u added this thread :) No matter what don't lite up... Keep on keepin on... Cherie

Hi dearest of dear friends: You RANTED...now I will RAVE! Although you were a few months back of my quit, I can almost without hesitation give you credit for being the one you seemed to care about me and gave me much needed and accurately timed support. Yes, I had already quit. Yet, I am not a robot and I also experience all that others talk about here. The difference was I had you, Lin, Kat and a very others to lean on. Our fire-side tet-a-tats, our cyber hand holding, and literally our showing emotion together made our journey a successful one. I cherish and enjoy those relationship to this day and hopefully forever. If only those newer at this could understand completely what you say above and then apply themselves to understand the Dangers of Smoking. The formula for success to me is Knowledge. It worked with us and can work here for all involved but they must work at it. Yes, it does get easier, if you work at it hard enough. I do still start threads. My situation is different from yours and the other wonderful ladys I mentioned in that I have nothing but time on my hands now with Judy having passed and have frankly turned the site into a major source of pleasure and a boredom-breaker. You are forever a cyber buddy and I think of you and the other 2 daily. What a bond this commonality can generate. Best to the Bear Clan. Give us another update for the eyes of all here. The clan holds the record here for the most in a group to succeed. Talk about doing your part to reduce your carbon footprints on this earth...WOW! There are a bunch of us that will forever be quitting buddies. and while we don't have to hunt each other down for support these days, it's still wonderful to know that each of you are out there....I think of you more than you know and hope you are finding the path back to what will become normal for you. and just for you.....I put the bear clan stats up (in the proper forum LOL).....Our family is all gathering today...(grandson leaves for Air Force) and guess where else the stats are??? on the fridge in large print! I seldom take the time to initiate a new thread...and I first wrote this as a post in another thread....but I realized that I felt strongly enough about it that I wanted to title it and put it in front of everyone here.....so following is the rant of an old quitter. It's SO important to realize that quitting is a "personal CHOICE" You can NOT intwine the choices of two people where this addiction is concerned. You may make the SAME choices....but then again you may not.....one may succeed easily....one may have an awful time....including slips and even failure. The other can NOT let this effect THEIR decision. When I quit, I wanted to blab about it non stop....I wanted recognition and praise....I basked in the warmth of feeling like a conquering hero. When my hubby quit, he told me to 'shut up already' about quitting.....he wanted to hear not a SINGLE word or advice OR support. (said it made him think more about smoking) He certainly did it HIS way and it certainly wasn't MY way. LOL We steared clear of each other on certain subjects and in certain situations for quite some time. We are now both pretty vocal about winning this battle and seem to agree on about everything....(but we realize we needed those different approaches in the beginning) If you aren't careful, you will let what a mate/partner/friend is doing play into your OWN quit. You will resent their failure or sometimes even their apparently easy success! This is the junky in you at work!! Your addiction is powerful and ever so sly....it works on you both consciously and UNconsciously! Keep yourself set aside in your OWN quit. Learn ways to nurture and strengthen it. Don't let the fact that you are UNIQUE in how you do this and how you feel about it get confused with the OTHER person's uniqueness. I have a dear friend that quit shortly after we did. He has relapsed a couple of times.....the first time he tried to hide it from us and when I found out I was REALLY upset.....I realized I was taking HIS problem WAY to personally. He didn't deserve my anger/disappointment/judgement etc.....and frankly I didn't deserve what those feelings "toward" him did to "me". I had to learn to back off and regroup.....the person needed my 'support'....
