Hi Ed Thought I had answered this must be getting old!!! Its a dilemma the site reminds me of smoking and yet there are so many nice people we chat with and who also need our help. At the end of the day I have reached around 21 weeks which to me is remarkable! Must work! Slivers, First of all, the best way to get help is to start your OWN new thread in one of the forums. Otherwise, people might not read an old bumped post like this and offer you the support you need. Second, cutting back is not quitting. It CAN be a good step to take to prepare for the quit, but as long as you are smoking, you are not quit. Plain and simple. But don't feel bad that you are having a hard time cutting back. Cutting back just may not be the method for you. That doesn't mean that you will be unsuccessful in your quit when you do finally quit, but it just means that cutting back is not for you. But if you still want to cut back, try making it as difficult on yourself to smoke as possible. Put the smokes in your car, or give them to a non-smoking neighhor that you don't like and don't want to see very often and make yourself go over there to get your smokes everytime you want to smoke or put 100 rubber bands around them and make yourself take them off one by one before you smoke. The point is to make it difficult for you to smoke. That will help you see which cigarettes you can live without and which ones are not worth the effort. Also, write down your reasons for wanting to quit and then pick a quit date. You might also want to use an aid to help you. Using NRT or some other aid is NOT cheating! It can make the cravings not as bad while you learn to live your life as an ex-smoker. If you're having a tough time, then I would suggest using one. Best wishes to you. I still suggest that you start a new thread so that you can get the most help possible. Crave the Quit! Slivers, Keep doing what you are doing. As BFS said, cutting back is a great way to prepare for you quit. Start working through the program if you haven't already. Start trying to understand your addiction and it's presence in your daily life. When do you smoke? Why? Where? With who? Use the program to help you come up with a plan to tackle cravings and these triggers. When you feel ready, set a quit date. Imallclear, Of course you wanted to hide. One of the reasons this site works is because people make connections with others. This in turn encourages accountability. Focus on you. Don't be afraid to reach out. If you don't reach out we can't help you get to where you want to be. And remember, every quit is different. It takes some longer than others to feel comfortable in their quit. We know you can do this! As the days accumulate on your quit meter so will you. You made it to 40 days! Be proud of that! Don't think those 40 days don't count! Keep close. Phil, Yes I think you are right! I try to post regularly and positively as much as possible. People say kind things when you try to help or do a bit extra (like me with the stats), but it's not all selfless. One of the reasons I like helping people is that ultimately, it makes me feel good as well! Imallclear, Yes, Danielle is right. I misread your post at the time.. all the best Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 330 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,919 Amount Saved: 2475 Life Gained: Days: 53 Hrs: 21 Mins: 12 Seconds: 28

ImallClear, You are not the first person who has slipped because you felt you no longer needed to post here. Penitent's post strikes a chord with me. When I first came here and found old time quitters posting I thought 'Why are they still posting - are they still struggling after all this time?' Then after a few months I 'got it'. As Pen says, I would not be quit now without this site. Like him, I don't feel I need to come here, but I feel a debt. It is pay back time and I want to help others as I was helped earlier in my quit. all the best Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 327 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,831 Amount Saved: 2452.5 Life Gained: Days: 53 Hrs: 9 Mins: 48 Seconds: 4

at first this site was a MUST! After a few months I needed the support less and less. I still pop in and try to give support when I can. I want to pass along what I was given. Unfortunatly that hasn't been often lately. With family and work, the time is limited. I think what Danielle said about accountability is so true. It's nice to have someone care about you and for you to feel accountable to them. If it's this site, friends, or family. I know I have learned so much from this site. I don't post a lot but I sure am reaping a lot. There are so many profound statements made here. Somethings I have always thought or haven't thought about and to see them posted here reinstates it. What I have learned here has made me have a real positive attitude about my quit. I'm still hanging on and will never take another puff. I rarely post but read regularly, several times a day. Without question, the regular reading of others posts had helped me to stay the course. Many, many thanks to those of you who post regularly and help to keep so many of us headed in the right direction. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/10/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 63 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,458 Amount Saved: $283.5 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 7 Mins: 50 Seconds: 54
