Newly a non smoker, again

Huey... smoking is a horrible addiction. We are all addicts and can go right back to day one at any given moment. I don't think I could live with a smoker now that I am quit. The issue here isn't your relationship. I would bet that your spouse has said these things because she knows that smoking will kill you and probably feels her own quit threated if you are smoking. My quit is the most important thing in the world to me. I try to protect it at all costs. Quitting has to be about you and you have to do it because you want to do it. Otherwise you are setting yourself up for failure. Keep the communication lines open. Focus on your quit and everything else will fall into place. You have to want to quit for you, not for saving your marriage. You already quit for 3 1/2 years...you know you can do it again. I suggest that you do an inventory...what made you start back after so long? Had you been thinking about it and you finally gave in? Did it happen during a stressful moment? Were you with someone who smokes and you just bummed one? Whatever the cause, you have to look at that. And then, you have to just not smoke again. I don't think you should focus on forever...just don't smoke today. Then do it again tomorrow. Keep doing that. Promises are ... well, just promises. Don't grovel, plead, negotiate or beg. Just don't smoke. Huey, Welcome to our support community. We are always here to help with the addiction. Take the time and effort to really want this. You did it once and you can do it again :) Communication is essential throughout a quit. Your partner does understand what you are going through, and knows the deadly addiction. We are unable to comment about your marriage situation, this may be something to discuss within the SSC IM Messenger with other members. Concentrate on your quit and get back in the saddle! Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
