When Do You Go From Being an Ex-Smoker to a Nonsmoker

for 18 år siden 0 2027 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
You are whatever you desire to call yourself. Personally, I was a quitter up until the end of January/beginning of February. At that time I became a non-smoker. I will always be an ex-smoker. The distictions, to me and I don't ask anyone to agree with them, are: A quitter is actively fighting the desire to smoke. Not necessarily craving, but the thoughts and urges are there more than not. A non-smoker no longer has craves or urges and rarely has thoughts of smoking. The most common thought to a non-smoker is "Gee, I haven't thought of smoking since ... I don't really remember!" An ex-smoker is someone who used to smoke on a regular basis. Just my 1 1/2 cents. Keep up the good quits, everyone. *raising hand* I want to amend my earlier post! Honestly, as much as I like threads like this, I've never felt there was any true importance of how we referred to ourselves...except TO ourselves. If you felt more proud to refer to yourself as a non, then by all means, call yourself a non. It was simply a personal thing with our own personal logics behind it. After all, not many people ask, "Are you and ex or non?", right? They'll simply ask if you smoke or not. And if we say we're non smokers, I can't imagine someone asking *with suspicious eyes* "are you suuuure you're not an ex?" lol (making myself laugh at that visual).. ok..sorry..back to the subject... I mentioned this lightly in my earlier post but as things around me have changed, I really want to emphasize... There IS a time that it is VITAL that you be known as an EX-SMOKER Your health care providers NEED to know that you are an ex-smoker, former smoker, somebody that used to smoke, whatever label you choose, EXCEPT...if you've smoked, you are not and never will be a non-smoker to them. Physicians don't mean for the term "ex-smoker" to be an insult. Most are full of praises when you tell them you've quit...but... It's vital you use the correct label with your health care providers because it makes a HUGE difference in diagnosis and treatments. Don't leave room for doubt. We can't ignore the fact that our bodies have battle wounds and scars...our physicians need to know why. Otherwise, I think you should g'head call yourself whatever makes you feel great! I've been home a week recovering from surgery with another week to go and a bad case of cabin fever ...can you tell? :) N.O.P.E. Cigarettes Not Smoked

This came up several months ago and someone brought up a good point... When you go to a doctor, and fill out your history, the form will always ask if you smoke. I got a major kick out of checking that "NO" box the first time! ...but without fail, there's that next question... Have you ever smoked? If so, how much and how long? So in some cases I guess it does matter if you're ex or non.... but I tend to eat out more than I see a doc and you know I'm asking for the non-smoking section....and if someone asks if I smoke, I proudly say no... Guess that makes me both an ex and a non. Either way, I worked hard to get here so as long as I'm not smoking, "they" (whoever they are) can give me the title of their choice :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 571 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,436 Amount Saved: $2038.47 Life Gained: Days: 60 Hrs: 13 Mins: 7 Seconds: 14
