Hi Maria, Dont feel deprived because you cant smoke, instead feel relieved that you dont need to inhale those poisons into your lungs again, and feel happy that you are a non smoker. When you give up smoking you give us absolutely NOTHING except a bad disgusting habit. You need to focus on what you will gain by quitting!! GOOD LUCK!! Maria, You are doing great. My first week was a nightmare. I have a smoking hubby. Like sparky I too lost a few quits before at 4or5 days. This time I was not gonna let that darn thing win. To heck with it. I am bigger badder and stronger than it. Like you I do not have any health problems, maybe that is why I had such a hard time getting to where I am today. Honestly though is that not horrible. Waiting until you get sick before you quit.(I know some do... I am not trying to offend anybody.) It is sad. Quit now while it is good. While you have time to enjoy your life. I had to keep all my reasons close and bennifits of quiting closer. I liked smoking too. I also liked spending that time with hubby. But my reasons were bigger, My life is valuble. Hi Maria Yes very proud of you and I remember those first several days. You're doing it and at this point for you in it probably hour by hour; you are getting it done. Sometimes it got so tuff, I just took a couple of asprins and went to bed early. I woke better the next morning. It really is a day to day thing and it gets easier. You have to believe this. It does get easier and you are getting closer to it getting easier. I want to tell, I like you enjoyed smoking. I did it for 40 years, real stupid. I quit for many reasons and we need to remind ourselves why we are giving up something we like. I for one reason wanted to be around longer so that I could help take care of my wife as we grow older. How selfish of me that I would smoke and deprive others of what I have to offer them. I quit smoking because in the eyes of other people, it made me look weak. I quit because of $7 per pack and giving all that tax money to the goverenment. I quit because it became a real chore trying to get a smoke in here and there before you go to a place that does not allow smoking. I quit because I can't smoke on airplane and it was tought not lightning up on a three hour fly. List your reason Maria, and remember why you are doing this quit. You will make it, I can see and feel it in you! There are many successful quiter here. Some like you are in the early stages and some are a few to several weeks, months and years. Yes Maria you are being successful; five hard first days. You learn as you go how to cope, and the coping gets easier as you understand what trigger fighter you need to use to get you through the urges.

Maria look at you, doing great, I hope this helps nicotine is insectiside, arggggg. You're not missing out on much right? Get that dopamine working again, reward yourself, doesn't have to be much, just something that makes you feel good, for me it's aroma therapy, when I get into the tub with my lavender bubbles, or what ever the scent of the day. I also feel good going to mall and I smell all the perfumes and check all the makeup, don't we smell good now? Maria, How are you rewarding yourself? What have you replaced smoking with? Give yourself something you love more than smoking. Know that you are not alone in your mindset. I didn't change mine until I went into nursing and I got to see first hand the consequences of smoking. Doing some research may help you to strengthen your resolve. Be patient, just like anything else it will take some practice before your mind switches to: I hate smoking. Keep strong and congratulations on five days smoke free. Maria, how I can relate to where you are in your quit. You are at the point where I have lost my quit so many times. Please don't give in, it is now worth the hell you will be putting yourself though. That puff is only a moment, that pack will steal everything you have worked for. You are worth more than a price of cig. You have gone though 5 days. Do you want to start all over again? Let me tell you going though a quit over and over and over again it not worth it. You will look at quit meters and say to yourself "I should have that much time, but no I had to take that puff and then I had to buy that pack. Now here I am starting over again." Instead say here I am and I am smoke free and I have 5 days and counting. Stay stong. Maria You are spot on. Wanting the freedom and health more than the rush the chemical high from the smoke. There is no balance you either have health or you have the other side, unhealth. Are you bored? Are you feeling weak? Find some coping mechanism that will get you excited, feeling alive and that you are on top of the mountain. Keep stretching and you will do this one day at a time. Find something that will reward you and let yourself know what a wonderful job you are doing. You will soom be through the first week and you are well on your way to the beginning of a new life.
