I think I have learned a valuable lesson

Jan, You smoked for many, many years. I remember thinking that on day 3 or 4 I would be fine and over quitting. It took a lot longer than that but each day is progress. You now know that the cigarette didn't make you feel better. It didn't help anything. It probably just made you feel worse. Something I found in my quit is that I had to fight for it. Resisting temptation isn't easy. I kept telling myself that everday is one day closer to never feeling this way again. Older quitters told me that it would get better and I just had to trust that they were telling me the truth. It was a long rocky road to get here but it really does get better. Keep marching forward and you will get there. Don't let your slip be your downfall. Pick up, get rid of all smokes, ashtrays, lighters, matches... all of it! And get back to taking your life back from this horrible addiction that controls you. Jan you must have some special meaning to Duffis for him to post on your thread. He has had some monster things hit him and he even told me that the thought of a smoke might help. This was when he was on the ground with a pit bull tearing the hell out of him. Another 4 hours in the emergency room and I waited to hear him say lets go have a smoke, but it didn't happen. Then a kidney stone attack, he still didn't fold but he did tell me to go get him a cigar which he never unrapped. The fight with cancer he is winning, but he still hasn't caved. Every one is differend and they handle things either well or badly. I don't after all these years with him have a clue what makes him tick. He just makes a decision and that is it, I wish I could be that sure of my self. Good luck in the coming days. Jan your post caught me on my way out the door. I had stopped in to congragulate BFS on her quit and it has been a long time since I posted here at the SSC. Here is a quote from a mentor or mine that you might consider. Smoking is a choice and you either choose not to smoke or smoke. Don't beat your self up over this, instead think about wether you want to smoke or not smoke and then make a decision. "Everything you want in life has a price connected to it. There's a price to pay if you want to make things better; a price to pay for just leaving things as they are, a price for everything. Nature cannot be tricked or cheated. She will give up to you the object of your struggles only after you have paid her price. Success cannot be coaxed or bribed. Pay the price and it will be yours. The universe is run with far too tight a rein for luck to interfere. Fortune sells her wares, she never gives them up freely. In some form or another, you'll pay for her favors, or you'll go away empty handed. Success is the child of drudgery and perseverance. There is no success at bargain basement prices. The highway to success is a toll road.
