Excellent point! I don't think the tax will be that much of a detterent either. I also agree that more needs to be spent on smoking cessation. I really envy the preventative measures of socialized medicine!

I hope they keep raising the taxes on cigarettes higher and higher and higher! It may just end up saving a life or two.

pack of smokes in Hawaii is about five us dollars, some for less the generics. I never was detered from buying cigs because of blowing through 6 bucks a day. Education and prevention and strong social reform. The truth needs to be really be told about what a drag it is to quit the drag. not that I have an oppinion or anything, can't help myself sometimes, no wonder I use to smoke.

They have a bill in California that, if it passes, will raise the cost of cigs to between 6 and 8 dollars a pack.......an increase of $2.60 a pack. I really like it. IMO alot of people will quit when shelling out that kind of cash plus the social stigma AND the health issues.
I don't care what they do with the money. Everyone knows about NRTs and there is so much support on the internet. I really just want to see big tobacco CRUSHED!!!!Oh, the lies......light cigs weren't really light at all. Adding nic to keep us addicted. So many of us say "i knew better" and blame yourselves but if that were the case why did tobacco have to resort to fraud. You were coerced.
I will truly celebrate when France goes smoke free. The UK is really good but I think of the French as the major smokers!!
:)
NOPE,
Janet
