On my way...

Faith, thanks for the tips. This is only my second day on Chantix, and perhaps it's mental, but even last night on the way home, and at home, I would light up and felt like I wasn't getting anything out of it..could it be the combination of the mental attitude and the pill making me feel that way. I logged my smokes yesterday. I smoked 12 from 3:45 am to 9:00pm - 12!! where I would have smoked 15 to 25 maybe, and the other thing I am finding is I am not finishing the entire thing...so I continue to stay positive, and as you mentioned, I am already starting to think I am smoking out of habit and not so much need...RAINIE, how are you doing partner? We are on the same timing and I want to know if you are still hanging in there?

one day delay, I didn't get to the drug store, but I am on my way now with Chantix...really pumped up and so ready to quit. A couple of ramblings from a conversation with a co-worker yesterday...what am I going to do with the time I usually smoked like when I am done cooking dinner and cleaning up and going out on the patio or garage to smoke with my wife? Or when I am at work, I sure as hell won't sit in front of this computer for 10-12 hrs a day, so I guess instead of getting up to go down and out to the smoke shack, I will just take a lap around te parking lot, eat a mint, and go back to work. I told him, one of the few people I work with who really care enough about the fact I am trying to quit, that these are "activities" that I have done for so many years, now what? On we go.....

Hi Raine- I have set next Thursday as my QUIT Day...still unsure exactly how that happens, I will just keep taking the medicine and stay committed to STOP

Way to go Rainie and Mr. Magic! Chantix is working for me!. Magic is right about replacing those smoking "times". I am trying to deal with that, still figuring it out. Let me know if you have any questions. I started taking it 1/1 as a New Year's resolution. At first I didn't really understand that shouldn't be trying to smoke as much as before when I really wasn't having the craving. I soon got with the program and cut back pretty drastically day by day by asking myself for each cigarette whether I really wanted it or not. I had my last cigarette on the 15th. This Chantix really is a breakthrough for medicine! You will be happy with your choice. It won't do it all though...you still need to be committed. Rainie, It's only your first day/pill and the first week is only .5mg. Probably if you waited a bit the urge to smoke would have come. The first week is to build up the chantix in your body. After a couple of days you will notice a change in the way they taste and you will know that is working in you. Then ask yourself if you can skip this one. I think you will discover that smoking sets the schedule of our days, so in a few days the times to smoke will be that alone and not the urge. Although it is not as helpful as this site, go to Chantix.com and register for their support (you will need to have your meds with you to register). The guy with the wobbly head and the no smoking shirt is kind of hokey but it helps you learn about chantix, how it is progessing in your body, and what to expect. mrmagic, rainie and audrey: Fellow Chantix quitters, all! I have completed my 12 weeks and finished up the program. I will tell you that during the week before my quit date, I found myself thinking, "well, this doesn't taste very good at all" or "I'm only smoking out of habit -- I don't really NEED this smoke". So, I found myself smoking less and less. The Chantix really does help with the cravings -- it makes them more manageable. But your desire to quit, as you will see on this site so many times, MUST be greater than your desire to smoke. One interesting Chantix note for you: In the first two weeks after I quit the Chantix, I found myself feeling very uptight and restless and edgy. I started to wonder if I had become addicted to the Chantix! I considered doing another 12 weeks, which they say you can do, but now I notice I'm feeling better about it, so I think I'll stay off of them. Wishing you all well in your baby quits -- be good to yourselves, be gentle and stay strong! Keep posting, so we can keep up with your progress. Ok MrM, you & me we are buddies and along with help from those that have gone before us we are going to ROCK!!! Audrey...can you go into a little detail about how the "real" first 7 days went. Like your experience when you started to ask yourself the question "do you really want this cig"? I took my first pill this morning and I don't know if it is in my head or what but right now is my normal time to jump outside for my first one... I asked myself...are you dying for one??? the answer is an honest to goodness, no. Is this real or in my head? Ok, Mr.M we gotta gear up for this... you & me and a few hundred of what are about to become our closests friends!!
