Thoughts/Craves/Anxiety

Thats funny...amazing what little things can trigger a craving. Last night I had a short dream that I was puffing on an UN-LIT cigarrette and pretending that I was actually smoking. I even fake lit it with a lighter and was relishing my fake puffs. In my dream I told myself to put it down as if I were playing with fire and just tempting myself. Weird! LOL on smoking the sofa! Craves will be around quite a while but as other people have said, they will have less and less power over us. You're doing great! Thanks everyone! I appreciate the clarification of terms. It makes sense to me now and I will now recognize a trigger for what it is and stop it in its' tracks. (Almost sounds like I'm hunting bear or something, huh?) Yesterday we took my son to see the Wiggles Live and it was a 3 hour drive by car so I occupied myself with Nintendo, magazines and a great book BUT every daggone car that we passed had someone smoking in it! I was amazed! And I couldn't help looking at them, their face, their hands, etc. I'm not sure what I was looking for but I couldn't tear myself away. Ah, the joy of the quit! Hi! I've done a lot of reading on here and I appreciate all the support you've given me thus far! I have a question but it may sound a little dumb. My quit has been great until yesterday. I began having thoughts about cigarettes. I saw someone light a cigarette in a passing vehicle and the routine (cigarette in mouth, lighter in other hand, the first scorch of hot smoke in my throat, etc.)was so incredibly familiar, I could almost feel it myself. Yesterday, I think that if I could've figured out how, I'd have smoked the stinking sofa! So I understand yesterday that I was cravin' like crazy. But today has been more of just a thought floating through my addled brain every now and them. Are the thoughts and craves the same thing? I certainly felt much more anxious with what I think was a crave. I just wondered if I'm just craving or being "nostalgic"! I don't personally like either of those feelings! LOL Either way, I didn't smoke and life is still good! Thanks Windy,Casey and Marie, I guess y'all are right! It doesn't really matter what I call them as long as I arm myself with all my coping strategies/tools. I just felt "weak" with these feelings, and I DO NOT like feeling like that. I guess it's just a tiny glimpse of the hold this addiction has on me. Yuck, this may get ugly! LOL Thanks, Deb My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 215 Amount Saved: $37.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 0 Mins: 33 Seconds: 8

Hi Chick - as far as I'm concerned, that was a craving (not a physical craving but just as strong nevertheless). Every day, I have cigarette "thoughts" but they only feel like a mild desire and they pass quickly. When I have cravings - I need to get all my survival tools in hand and just do my best to get through it. Glad you are feeling better today. Hey Chicknoodle, It was important for me to know what to call what I was feeling so that when I talked to others about my experience I could understand exactly what they were saying to me and I to them. In other words I wanted to make sure I was on the same page of understanding with my co-quitters. Some don't think terms are important and of course to each their own. Trigger: Is a smoking thought, it is not a desire to smoke (if you give your trigger power it will turn into a crave) Crave: Is when you yearn, desire strongly, want a cigarette The physical withdrawals cause triggers (smoking memories) because your body wants a fix and that is what you are use to running for. Get the nicotine out of your body and then you only have the mental to deal with. Cigarettes Not Smoked

When you see other people smoking, see the cigarette for what it is. It is their ball and chain. It is eating their health with each draw they take. It is robbing them of their money. It is making them stink. They are mentally in a cloud of smoke ... they don't fully realize what they are doing to themselves. It is truly sad. Pray for them to see the light as you have. Fondly, Free btw - you are doing great! ... keep it going!
