I rewarded myself yesterday with a satellite radio. When I make 60 days next week I am rewarding myself again by leaving for Vegas for a week. I will be driving and will have two smokers with me. I am sharing a room with one of them for 5 days but I'm not worried. I am convinced I am not a smoker and each time I feel stress I can convince myself that smoking will only add to the situration. Interesting, First off, you have nothing to feel ashamed of and everything to feel proud of.....look at that quit meter!!! You're doing a wonderful job. It has to be normal for the mind to think of smoking when you're around those triggers. That's part of the addiction, right? I'm new to my quit but, from all that I've read, folks do get cravings pretty far into their quit. Resort back to your tools you used at the beginning of your quit. Keep patting yourself on the back....okay? Be careful driving home, hang in there, and then pat yourself more when you get home. You WILL make it home and you WILL resist those triggers. Tell that little demon to hit the road.....in the other direction. Okay? Changing, I think you should invite Imallclear on your trip. Lord knows you wouldn't be bored. ha ha ha ha I think you should try to get rid of as much of the cigarette smell as you can today. (Tuff Stuff Upholstery Cleaner from Wal-Mart) Then you need to hang something really tacky from your rearview mirror.....Like big, fuzzy, lime green dice. Something you don't want anyone else to see because they're just way, way too tacky. But, you have to leave 'em hanging there until you get back home. ha ha ha That'll be your reward....taking those dice down. Sunflower seeds....Do you have any? Those are so great on a trip. Hey Imallclear... no... I don't think the die are cool at all! Was joking. They are about as cool as loud plaid pants, wouldn't you say? :8o: Well, yes, I can't smoke because you would be too far ahead of me after I reset my quit meter, and I would have to find someone new to follow around, and I kind of enjoy following you around and I enjoy your contributions to this site! What I don't enjoy right now is the weight I've gained. I'm trying to once again tap into that well of strength I know is there, and stop eating junk. I've always been slim... this is the first time since college I had to be bothered about my weight. I like being slim, so... today I've started calorie counting, and cutting out junk. I love chocolate and I like having a Pepsi every day. I'm going to drop the Pepsi, and limit myself to 2 small pieces of choco every day. If I can stop smoking, I can do this! On another note... I've been a walking advertisement for this site. Gave it to a lady today for her husband. If I helped just one person quit and feel good, I would be happy. because I couldn't remember how many days since I quit without logging on here to look! Actually, I'm having a new set of struggles. I traveled for a couple days last week for work and am in a hotel at the present time, but going home tomorrow. Hotels and driving are larger triggers than I thought. I just feel lost without smoking here. Hotels were one place I smoked, although usually I tried to use the balcony, but I still smoked. At home I had to go outside. That was easier to stop doing than sitting in a hotel for a few hours without smoking. Driving is the same... I have a 5 hour drive tomorrow. I drove here yesterday, and my mood was as interesting as my name. I would be fine, and then I'd be so grouchy, I couldn't stand myself. Good thing I was alone. I thought this kind of thinking was gone, but silly me... no it isn't! So, today, I wondered what it would be like to smoke a cig. My next thought was how it would burn my throat, and make my lungs mad at me. That took care of the thought. I really know deep down that I won't smoke, but it seems like if I slip into any of my old ways of eating crap food or drinking too much soda, I want to smoke too. Funny how once we abuse our body in one way, it's easy to abuse it other ways. Sorry for being a whiner. I like myself better when I'm a bragger, congratulating myself on all my smoke free days. Which reminds me... my last reward? It was big--a new set of Bose headphones and ipod. So... when I wanted to smoke, I put my headphones on and "used" my reward instead. Geesh... :eg: My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 58 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 882 Amount Saved: $111.94 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 19 Mins: 57 Seconds: 26

I think I enjoyed reading all your good ideas, and the fun you were having while I was driving! I loved the tacky dice idea. I might have to consider that! I had sunflower seeds and good music. The sunflower seeds really work pretty good. Imallclear... you hit the nail on the head with what I DIDN'T think to do! I didn't think of a reward, and I didn't think of a replacement, or a diversion, even though I knew it would be a place I would want to smoke. I did think negatively instead of positively, when I was going stir-crazy last night. Hmmm... It's funny how fast we can flip-flop our attitude from positive to negative when we aren't prepared. Thanks for solving my problem everyone... I think I'll buy some cool dice for next time! Next time I'll make sure I pack some work-out clothes and go to their gym and that should help. I did get a free meal while I was at the hotel. I had chicken on a salad one evening... it tasted like it had been cooked on a George Foreman grill right along side of the seafood. Ick. Last night, I went to order something to eat and I told the guy that I didn't want anything with chicken and I briefly explained the fish-chicken. He gave me a free meal, and they brought me cheesecake to my room last night. And I wasn't even complaining... just telling him why I wasn't going to order chicken! Thanks for all your input, everyone! I enjoyed reading your posts. Imaclear... I thought of you and your sixty days last night, and meant to congratulate you. I love watching your numbers, because I know I'm not far behind! :) I can't smoke if I wanted to, because then you would be too far ahead of me to watch anymore! Changing. Here's some other ideas to consider. a book on tape, exercise hand thingys - with spring or a ball, listen to a different radio station, talk to friend or family with a head set, take a tape recorder and record thoughts for a project, a massage seat cushion, picutres that are motivational and/or of family or of yourself as a child (you wouldn't want to see a child (now you) doing what you were doing to your body and life with smokes - you deserve better, have a short-term/immediate reward set up for completion of the drive. Good luck. When all else fails - think of us. Interesting. Everytime I think if a smoke now, I'll be spured by your comment of our being in this together. p.s. if you think the fuzzy dice (1 is dice/ 2 are die, I think) is cool then you won't get the tacky benefit. Do you really think they are cool? Tutti - I really like the tacky. It's so important to keep our sense of humor about this. :p Of course, we still haven't heard back from Interesting. We seem to have run away with the tread. Interesting - what do you think?
