Fellow Quitters,
Franklin D. Roosevelt, in his first first inaugural address, said "So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itselfnameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."
That statement, made in 1933, is as true today as it was back then, when it referred to The Great Depression. "Nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror" Yep, that is how a lot of quitters feel when they even think of giving up cigarettes. Why? Addiction. Paralyzing, all consuming addiction. An addiction that has stolen our self-confidence and determination right from us. We give up our ability to make sound and proper decisions for ourselves in the name of the almighty "fix" of nicotine. We tremble at the thought that our lives will end if we stop feeding the Mr. Nicotine craving.
Tisk, tisk, tisk. What a bunch of crap. Yet, not a week goes by that someone here doesn't post about fear in some form or fashion. Why is there fear? Lack of knowledge of the quitting process. Lack of understanding about how cigarettes work. A dread of the unknown. Lack of confidence. You name it, people have it. I'm convinced that smokers are amoung the weakest people around. They need a crutch. Never smokers have faced life head on and can deal with any situation that comes up. Smokers must retreat and cling to their little "helpers" for confidence and guidence. Tisk, tisk, tisk.
Be afraid and die a coward. Be strong and stand up to that which seeks to control you and live proudly.
