Super, I read your other thread saying that you don't think you're going to make it before I read this one just now, but I'm going to respond anyway and hope that it's not in vain. First, I'd like to tell you a story. When I first quit in June of last year, I had a "slip" of one cigarette on day 34 of my quit. I didn't reset my meter. 34 days after that, I had a "slip" of 2 puffs and I DID reset my meter, but it messed me up so badly inside that I knew I wouldn't rest until I put it back where it originally was. 64 days after that, I had a "slip" of 7 cigarettes, reset my meter and that's where it is today, with no "slips" since. BUT, I nearly lost my quit for good that time and am extremely fortunate to be here smoke free today. Oh how I wishI had reset my meter after the first one! Slips lead to more slips! Slipping and not resetting your meter gives you an excuse to slip again by thinking "it's no big deal to smoke this time... I did it last time and nothing bad happened... I can smoke this time too and go back to my quit tomorrow." And that's the way right back into this addiction!!! Please, if you haven't smoked again already, DON'T!!! And whether or not you reset your meter is completely up to you... but really, that's the least of your worries! Right now, just concentrate on staying smoke free and do NOT let yourself smoke again!!! You CAN do this Super!!! Do NOT give up on yourself! Crave the Quit! Hi Super! A slip is a learning experience. You have learned what has triggered that crave. Write it down and add something beside that trigger that helped you keep from smoking. Next, if you only had one. Then do not reset your meter. Follow your heart instead. You had 1. You had to see if the 'love affair' was still there. However, that 'affair' was a mistake. It was horrible. Smokes only want us for our money. They are evil little tramps and thieves!! Begone w/ them my friend! Instead, have a love affair w/ life and all of its sweet rewards!! As for the emotions you are experiencing. They are NORMAL!! It's ok to feel like that!! BUT if they linger for more than a day or so, call your doc and speak to him / her. Get the doc involved. They can provide a wealth of info for you to quit. Keep going Super! You're doing a great job!! Hey Super I did almost the exact same thing as you on day five of my quit. I reset my quit meter too, and you know those five days was smoke free still were there working right for me. This is a hard thing to do but by far I think it is hard in the beginning. Today I forgot how many days it has been, Yep it's over a month. Hang in there Hang in there. You still celebrate a week of quitting with a slip :) Just don't let yourself think it is ok to slip. The fact that it happens doesn't mean it's ok.....to ok it might be to set yourself up for it to happen again....make no mistake this addiction is a slippery, tricky monster....it will invade your thinking in ways you haven't even imagined at this point.....You should always be aware of that and alert to the signs of the junky moving in on your thinking. Learn from the mistake....make plans for an escape if you are ever faced with another cigarette coming from out of the blue. as to the quit meter....that's yours....if you think of the slip every time you look at it...then change it. If not, leave it. while a slip isn't 'ok', it's not a 'relapse' either? Just get on with quitting and get past the issue that keeps bringing you back to what has to do with smoking. Your goal is to leave smoking and all thoughts that are attached to it, so continue to move forward. and don't forget to reward yourself on a regular basis! Kick some butt now!
