Dear Trailbum,
I used Chantix, too. Took the pills for a week, stopped smoking on the 8th day and continued the pills for a month. The main reason I stopped using the Chantix was the cost. Toward the end of that month I even cut the pills in half to lengthen the time I could use them and to wean myself off. It has been a full month now without them and I am OK. I was really afraid when I stopped because I didn't know how much of an influence they had over my quit but I realized that it is mainly the person and the desire to keep the quit that is the greatest factor. I used the gum during any rough patches and that came up and now have not used anything for around month. I switched to regular gum to help with the oral thing. Don't get me wrong, the cravings are still here but I am determined to keep up the quit. Maria

I started my quit with patches/wellbutrin (for the umpteenth time). I read this thread and did further checking...mainly because I did not feel confident. I was having killer cravings with any aid I tried. My Dr. prescribed Chantix and I truly believe I owe my life to this wonderful little blue pill!

Ecord77,
Nausea is a common side effect for those taking Chantix. Consult your doctor. He/she will be able to advise you on how to manage this side effect.

Hi trailbum,
Congrats on your quit! I have been taking Chantix for 1 1/2 weeks and will be smoking my last cigarette tonight. It's great to hear some positive feedback! If I may ask, why did you stop the pills at 8 weeks? Or did I misunderstand your post? How are you doing now without the meds? Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Again, congratulations on your sweet success!
Debbie

I used Chantix to get me going on a quit smoking try. And with the help of the PC web sites. I have quit. ON It took me 3 weeks using the Chantix before I had a good stop with no puffs. It's suppose to be 4 days. You are suppose to take it for like 13 weeks. I stopped at the pills at 8 weeks.
I had smoked for 52 years. On the test I scored a 10 for highest dependence on nicotine. I have tried every kind of stop smoking aid that there is. I think it works great. And you don't have the Nicotine still coming into you from some other way. I had no problem stopping the use of Chantix. I have herd so much about people getting addicted to the gums and patches.
I do recommend it. It is expensive. But not compared to smoking.
Would l like to hear from others that has used this aid to stop nicotine.
