Ok so I posted this a little before dinner tonight....and here I am for my after dinner fix of the SSC. Windy, Ima you guys rock and you are both soo right. I think this shows how my quit has been for me.. A roller coaster of sorts. Imallclear I think you may be onto something....maybe I am being cocky and daring to give myself an excuse to smoke. Today really wasn't that bad as far as withdrawals go. I think my partner would have pissed me off with or without the patch today come to think of it. I am going to put the patch back on tomorrow, you guys made me realise That I shouldn't rush it. I need to be able to build up to it in my mind...that has worked for me. So next Monday look for my post titled "no more patches" and I will have coutermeasures available if needed. That's it Kaiti...You have ruined my quit!!! If I have to see Phill in a speedo on the beach I am burnin' one for sure!! Just kidding and no offense phil. Kaitilina...By the way the step down is not bad at all, I mean it was probably about 1/4 of what the 1st day quit felt like. You will feel something but it is nothing to be scared of and I will be here for you, like you have for me....Life is good, everybody. I think I have 2 patches left now (I missed a couple days) I am just too cheap to throw 'em out lol....Anyway Pete I am doing it Thurday this week...or not... I'll decide when I go to the counter to get the gum, that is basically how my quit started. I went to doc for antibiotics for cold, came out with script and a game plan...(SSC was my idea) and here I am 40 some odd days quit!!...I feel another thread coming...look for it My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 41 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 838 Amount Saved: $188.6 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 22 Mins: 38 Seconds: 56

I forgot my patch again today....Boss said something that pissed me off and I told him about it in no uncertain terms, he backed way off and realised who was right (me). Maybe there is something to being nic free, I certainly didn't and don't take the kind of BS I use to. I am looking forward to getting rid of patch next week, and I am preparing myself for this event. Windy and Keith Thanks for your input I really do cherish your advice. Dune, I think a trenchcoat is more Phil's style, so I wouldn't worry about the speedo! But I just want to say Congratulations for just doing it. Whatever it takes. (sounds like an athletic shoe commercial, doesn't it?) Every quit is as unique as the quitter, so you just keep on doing what you been doing, which is NOPE! With or without NRT, you are a winner for being a quitter! I await you on the cruise ship, Lynne and I have a lounge chair picked out just for you! We thought about mandating speedos, but thought better of it when we realized you guys might mandate bikinis. :gasp: Denise My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 64 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,925 Amount Saved: $480 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 11 Mins: 45 Seconds: 10

I know this is a little late, but I just got back from a trip so that's why I was not around and NOT because I went off the patches (about a week early). Just wanted to clarify this. You, Dudedad are the only person to know what is best for you because you are the one who has to live it. I was on the patches about 11 weeks and it felt right for me and it went okay when I stopped. My husband is allergic to the adhesive and had to go off the patches after 5-6 weeks. He uses the gum (2mg) and chews about 3 pieces a day still today, but that is where he is and what it takes to keep his quit. I guess the most important thing is to be comfortable with our choices and make them work for ourselves. As long as you don't smoke...... Hi Dune - Looks like you thought it out and made a good decision. Honestly, by the time you go from 7 to 0 there is very little difference. I still have craves but I have been off the patch for so long, those craves have absolutely nothing to do with a sticky thing on my arm and everything to do with those burn't out synapses in my brain..... Keep up the good work! Dune - I wish that I could answer this for you. When I was on the patches, there was a part of me that wanted to get through them faster because I didn't feel that I was truly "quit" until I no longer depended on them. The other part of me realized how much I was growing and learning. I know that the skills, strenths and confidence which I have gained in the past 90 days will be the most important factor in maintaining my quit. According to statistics, it takes 72 hours to get the nicotine out of your system. For me stepping down from 7 mgs to 0 mgs was relatively painless. Many people have successfully given up patches because they were sure they did not need them. Others have struggled and have either lost their quit or "almost" lost their quit. So.........the question is...how strong do you feel in this quit. If there is any question about slipping, please don't jeaprodize your quit. However, if you are ready to make that jump and you do not think that you need the patches.......go for it. (Perhaps keep the patch close by....if you don't need it in the next 4 days you are probably okay.....if you feel like you are going to fall...slap it on!) Good luck either way! Hi mate! When you come off the patches I would keep a pack of 2mg gum handy its quite cheap and is good for a quick fix in emergencies . I sometimes go 2 days with none then get a horrid crave and it gets fixed! Dont get into the habitof taking it no point! Its when an emergency comes up or a domestic panic......
