I call it post vacation stress syndrome. You just got back from Venice right? Not only is reentry very hard, there is also probably a huge let down after all the build up for this very special reward.
I don't know if you do a lot of traveling, Phillip, but I do, and I really have to prepare myself for the letdown afterwards. I have to treat the time after a vacation almost like you treat the first stages of withdrawal.
Take NOTHING you think or feel too seriously. Decide to just take it step by step, moment by moment, and console yourself that you will look at your feelings and make appropriate decisions after at least a month or so has gone by.
Not many people feel much sympathy for the trials of re-entry from paradise, but they are REAL, at least for me. I often find myself hating my job, questioning where I live, and feel stressed by everything.
So my dear man, do what you are doing. Rant to those who care. Hang on for dear life. Make no rash decisions (and smoking would be the rashest of the rash), and just go through the motions. Later you can decide what are real issues and what are just symptoms of PVSS*.
I am going to add this to the DSM IV classifications. Maybe I will become famous!! :p
