gvreal, sorry to hear you so called slipped. I'm 6 months into my quit and I would never drink around smokers becuase of this reason. I've read that too many drink and end up smoking. Shevie, I have to agree with you on this. Setting oneself up with drinking will do just that, set you up for "slippin". I know eventually I will be able to go to parties and drink once again, for now, I just go to parties without the drinking. So what, doesn't mean I'm not fun anymore. Just means my quit means more to me than taking that chance of smoking. Glad to hear you will regroup and try this again. Never give up quitting. Hi gvreal - Take what you have learned from this with you.... and hold it close. I'm not a drinker and I know from my time here, what a trigger alcohol is for so many... Lesson learned? Jump back in, friend. Don't beat yourself up over it. Go over the tools in your glove compartment again, rearm yourself, and DON'T light up again. Sorry folks, I have to disagree with you a bit. Gvreal, go ahead. Be disgusted with yourself and beat yourself up pretty bad. You've earned it and you deserve it. After all, there is plenty of information here about the dangers of drinking early in a quit. BTW, by early I don't mean days or weeks, I mean months. What is more important? Partying with friends and getting drunk, or breaking an addiction that will kill you painfully and slowly? That said, once you have gotten thoroughly disgusted with yourself and are battered and bloody from your own beating, then reread what everyone has said about it not being the end of the world (it isn't), and getting back on track with your quit (you can and must). Never forget the way this morning felt, Gvreal. Remember:
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. George Santayana
Let's not repeat the past. Let's move forward into the future. Freedom is there, Gvreal. Seize it. Unfortunately, I know all too well what you are going through. Have done it way too many times myself. At 13 days, it's pretty easy to say "to heck with it", isn't it. Eventually though, you really have to stop giving up on yourself - cause that's what you're doing - right. This isn't just about smoking!!!!! It's about doing what we need to do for ourselves, to get what we want. The key to freedom from this addiction is to not smoke. I don't think you were that drunk. You made a choice. If you have cigarettes right now - destroy them!!!!! Start again right now. And don't do it again. Just my experience talking. Yes, you feel stupid enough for all of us. We all know that alcohol is the worst trigger in this process. When are you going to restart. Do it now and lets forget yesterday. And...... gvreal, It has nothing to do with alcohol and everything to do with you and your mind set. You will quit smoking when your desire to quit is greater than your desire to smoke. It's as simple as that. There are some really unhelpful comments here but don't be alarmed by them (if you are still here). This is a support site and in general people here do not judge you but offer wonderful support. You can do this if you really want to and I want you to.
