FEAR AGAIN

for 18 år siden 0 32 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Liz, I'm not doing that great. I think I made a mistake and set my quit date too soon. I don't think I am prepared enough with coping mechanisms, etc. and also should have waited until the Wellbutrin was completely in my system (my doctor did say 3-4 weeks) and it has been almost 4 weeks. This is the first time I've ever tried to quit and I think I set my expectations too high. I'm not superwoman. I probably should have moved my quit date a week ahead - I might do that. I absolutely want to stop smoking but I don't want to have this fear of failing overwhelm me and frankly, the physical withdrawal right now is awful. I'm no good to my kids, my family, my business, I'm crying hysterically one minute and angry the next, irritable the next.. don't know what to do. How are you doing, Liz? How many times have you quit? I know that everyone has to do what works for them. I'm just not sure yet what is going to work for me. I hope you are doing okay. Liz, I know we can do it. I am now in the crying stage and have a lot of anger. I want to smoke so badly but I know that is not the answer. I feel like I'm just an emotional wreck. My kids are being supportive but I can't expect them to understand - they're kids. I never imagined I could feel so bad. Let's stick together and do this thing. We can beat the demon. I'm right with you..exactly at the same stage. I'm sooooo excited for both of you!!! I'm excited because I know where you are heading with this journey. Your taking control back of your life from your addiction. You both can do this, and I can't wait to watch the two of you grow stronger and stronger and beat this addiction. Breathe deep, the air has never smelled so good!! Hello Ladies, Liz, you can never post too much, that is not something you should be concerned with, I am very interested in what you have to say and how your feeling, so keep posting, your almost done with day 1. YAHOO!! Erika, your addiction is trying to get the best of you. It's making you doubt yourself and your committment to quit smoking. It doesn't matter if you have tried to quit 14 times or never before, you can still do it. Read some of the past posts and you will see that what you are going through is very normal. Keep us posted on how your feeling. We are here for you. I need to understand the process here: Erika, are you looking for the support of the group or Liz? I feel like kind of a voyeur until you stop making this rather public quit all about you and Liz; if that's your intent, you might do better to do it via IM; if not, why not invite others into the conversation? The one thing I would say to anyone, any time (but especially now) is that there is never a good time to quit, and there is never a good reason to keep killing ourselves slowly. So at some point, Christmas, Easter, Good Friday, Ground Hog Day, we choose life. When we choose life, death makes embarrassingly pathetic attempts to capture our attention. "I'm Christmas!" says death. ExCUSE me??? We don't want to stop killing ourselves slowly because it might mess with our Christmas?? Let's just stop and take a minute to consider the impact of that, shall we? I've lived with the very same warped logic for years, and I'm mortified by it. Christmas is about life, not death. It's about smelling like evergreen, cinnamon, and nutmeg; not stale cigarette smoke. It's about the ability to embrace the miracles of kids without wondering when we can sneak outside for a smoke. Christmas is not your reason to keep smoking, darlin, it's your biggest invitation to reclaim your life. The stales get a little high here, and I'm pulling as hard as I possibly can for you. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,596 Amount Saved: $170.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 14 Mins: 6 Seconds: 54

The night before ritual? I smoked pretty much the pack I had for the day till it was almost gone, I left one cigarette, I got rid of all my ashtrays, lighters- all implements of smoking. Then, before I went to bed, I took that last smoke and crushed it and threw it away. It was a symbolic moment I had to myself. Yes, right now fear is coming into play. It's kind of like when you were a kid, the night before school started after summer break. You didnt know what the next grade or the new teacher was going to be like. Thats how it was for me. After I went through my 1st day I couldn't beleive I went a whole day....That was a month ago now, and I feel great for doing it ...The craves are getting eaasier to deal with....Cobenfan gave me some great advice that got me through those 1st couple days---Breathe..deep breaths....I'll see if I can find her post on breathing. Erika, Good luck on tomorrow! you are going to do great!! --Kevin My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 455 Amount Saved: $101.2 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 5 Mins: 30 Seconds: 12

Hey Erika, I too am on wellbutrin..and the patch. I guess it seems to work, because although it definitely isnt easy, it is not as hard as thought it would be. This also is my 1st time going smoke free in 25 years..been smoking since I was 15. This is my 1st and only quit. I believe that. Mostly, because of the people here and the fact that this forum is here. As I sit, I am going through a major trigger for smoking for me. I have alot going here at my house as far as remodeling goes.........I dont think I will clog your post with the details....but if this trigger crave persist, I might wax it into a post just to keep me from going to store, you see, it is what ever it takes. This is a tremendous outlet to read.. to post..to get away from what ails you into smoking. Keep it up. You will do fine!- Kevin My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 458 Amount Saved: $101.2 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 5 Mins: 53 Seconds: 19
