Windy, The pity pot is a place that I spent a lot of time early in my quit. There were days I just didn't want to get out of it. I was lonely, tired and felt like no one cared about me. These feelings were worse when I was alone. Being alone seems to be difficult because there are less distractions, but when people were around, I just wanted to be alone. I believe there are times in our lives when we just need to step back, do some self analyzing, see where we have been and where we are going. Quitting is a life changing soul-searching experience. Use this experience and this time for self improvement. Don't look at this as a time of being lonely and tired. Look at as a time-out from everything. A time to regroup and prepare to move forward to that next stage in your life. You are doing great with your quit. A lot have experienced what you are going through. Do what you need to do to get through it. Just don't smoke. Windy, You will not believe this. On day 134 of my quit, I had all I could take of work! I went in to my boss and said "I'm leaving... Call it sick leave, call it vacation, call it whatever you want. I can't take it anymore and I'm out of here!" I wanted to smoke so bad that I still remember that afternoon like it was last week. I came here and posted instead. Those ahead of me told me to just stick it out a little longer and that things would get better. They were right. It did pass. I kept my job and moved forward. Quiting is such a trip and on those days that we just don't seem to be able to handle it, we just have to do whatever it takes to hang on until it passes. It does pass and the days get farther and father between. Hang in there. It is sooooo worth it. I promise. They said on the radio the other day, the 22nd of January is the most depressing day of the year. Christmas rush is over and the bills are coming in, winter is still ahead of us, not allot of happy thoughts there. Maybe your feeling wasnt from not smoking but just what most people go through this time of year. Whatever it is I sure hope your feeling better now. While you are reading this take yor right arm and raise it in the air, then bend it at the elbow and lower it behind your back, now give yourself a big pat on the back for quitting!!! My job requires me, at times, to make very quick assessments, judgement, and take instantaneous action. It's no wonder then, that it doesn't spill over into my personal being. When a problem comes along, I feel the need to instantly solve it, and when it is obvious that I can't, I become angry and frustrated. As a smoker, I would light up, maybe a few, until I could see the way through. As a non-smoker I need to remind myself that I still need to do that....take some time...to figure it out. But mostly what I try to remind myself is that there are some things that I cannot control. That doesn't mean that it has to reflect badly on me. Maybe it's not my problem to solve. One thing I am trying to remember is that whether I smoke or not, things will work their way through, given time - just as it always has. Smoking has never solved the problems. I have, or they just worked themselves out. When problems or thoughts weigh heavy on my mind, as they very often do, I need to remind myself that this obsessive worrying is 'just not working for me'. How about 'just not thinking about it'. The answer will come, not through the constant thinking about it necessarily, but perhaps clearer thinking comes from not making it a focus in our minds. I am trying to find peace, and I am through living in the moment as much as I can. It takes practice and well....time. The answers will come, I just need to be patient.
