How many times did you try?

for 17 år siden 0 3875 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
No you're not alone Butterfly, I have tried to quit at least twenty times, more than once for over seven months. With each try I learn something new and think with this quit I have a better chance due to the support here, and the fact that I had to come to terms with realizing that I am an addict, and that stress is a bad trigger for me, so I really have to go one day at a time and I really have to be prepared. And I know friends who have quit more times than I have, and some that won't even try. My doc says, just keep on trying and one of these days it will work - I think he's right! Probably 4 or 5. Always afraid to fail the quit. I smoked for 30 years. Initially was successful with the patch for 6 mos. Then trying the patch again with later quits I didn't last. This time Chantix. So far so good. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/16/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 63 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,278 Amount Saved: $176.4 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 5 Mins: 18 Seconds: 4

Thanks for that, Trailbum. Sounds like a warning from someone who knows. Great graphic by the way. I know just what he feels like. I smoked 52 years. Said I was stopping many times. 5000 at least.. The real attempts were not that many. Maybe like 5. NRPATCH, NIC GUM, Hypnosis, Gold Turkey, Zyban worked for about 30 days. The Chantix worked. I do not fell that I will never smoke again. I cannot breath and smoke. Got Emphysema. Folks you want to quit before that happens. Guess I'm the only one who's quit 10+ times. Honestly, I'm a little surprised. I'm VERY surprised by the number of people who have never tried to quit before. I guess I just always assumed that all smokers had tried to quit at least once before. Don't know why I thought that... guess maybe because the majority of all of the people that I've known who smoked, have tried to quit at least a few times. But the good news is that it IS possible to quit on your first time AND there are many here doing that and that's great. I guess if I'd found this site the first time I tried to quit, I may have quit for good as well (although I'm pretty sure it wasn't around back then). The main thing is that we're all quit now. I guess that's what matters, right? Crave the Quit! This is my second serious attempt (HI PAM) and the Chantix and my kid were the kicker this time. Good to see you. Hi all, As I wrote in the other thread, I have been smoking for 35 years and this is my fifth "major" quits. In between, I had several other "minor" attempts (ranging from few hours to few days). I have tried different methods: cold turkey, zyban (wellbutrin), NRT gums, ... In this fifth quit, I mainly use the NRT inhaler (supplemented by NRT lozenges - cut into quarters - when desperately needed). So far so good! I believe that this is my last attempt and I will get there! :) Never quit quitting, my friends! :) Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 206 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,068 Amount Saved: $1030 Life Gained: Days: 39 Hrs: 7 Mins: 16 Seconds: 27

This is my 5th quit (2 were for pregnancies), I like to think of it in terms of "previous attempts" and "the real quit". I truly feel this one is the real quit.
