Experiencing meds "withdrawal"

for 20 år siden 0 7 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I also had the bad dreams when I stopped Serzone, I described as when one might have had visions or hallucinations while having a fever from an illness. It was very strange. I couldn't sleep or eat which made my panic attacks worse. Now the great news is it only lasted a week. It seemed like an eternity at the time. Thank God I did have an old prescription of Xanax and it really helped especially at night. Right now thats all I am on -only when I need it.I am happy to report I am feeling better and glad I went off Serzone after hearing about it being taken off the market. I think the FDA really needs to investigate these drugs better before just sticking them out there and charging us all a fortune to poison our bodies.

This was brought up on another board and answered by a doctor. Serzone is being pulled from the market by the FDA as of June 14th, because of liver toxicity. The doctor and author of "Surving Panic Disorder" Dr. Stuart Shipko replied "In addition to liver failure, it tends to inhibit the metabolism of other drugs, and also was a very poor antidepressant to begin with. Good riddence. For those of you who may be stopping Serzone, beware that the blood levels of your other drugs may drop after you stop the Serzone."

Serzone Withdrawal... I have been on Serzone for about 2 yrs. Over the last several months, it has stopped working for me. I went to my GP and because of the black box warnings now on Serzone, he wanted to take me off. He suggested and gave me a sample box of Effexor XR.. I have stopped taking the morning dose of Serzone and for the most part okay. I did have some mood swings (really bad at 1st) but now I fell much better. It's the nighttime that I have a really hard time with.. I just stopped taking it last week thinking it would be okay. I started having really vivid dreams, like someone having their arm cut off. Dreams that I would and have never dreamed about before. I wake up in the middle of the night hot and sweaty and my heart is literally pounding, enought to scare me. Last night I finally broke a small piece of a pill off and took it. Does this sound normal and how long will this last? By the way, I didn't end up taking Effexor Xr because I have heard it's a nightmare to come off of...

Kristabelle, just a thought, but have you considered that you are not actually going through withdrawal, but the side effects of the new drug?? SSRIs have different side effects. Zoloft is a stronger SSRI than serzone (i think serzone iss a SNRI or multiple or something) and it is common to go through what you are feeling on the up from the new drug rather than on the down from the old one. Check out www.crazymeds.org as it has some really good info on both the side effects that you will feel for the first few weeks on zoloft, as well as the experience of withdrawing from serzone. It also talks about SSRIs in general and changing from one to another. You must read it if you have these types of questions and havent read it already.

I just wanted to say since my original post things have calmed down here physically for me. I haven't been on any meds for over a week now and I feel that the worse is over.As far as the withdrawal symptoms. My appetite is back, nausea is gone.I have gone back to using Xanax at night if I need it-night seems to be a bad time for some reason.I know it can take a while for the meds to completely leave the body,so I am hoping things don't start getting bad again. Deep breathing has helped during anxious times.I feel overwhelmed with daily things at times, but it isn't as bad as what I went through the first few days of being off the medicine-that was reallllllyyyy bad. Please, if anyone out there is considering quitting or trying a new anti depressant ...please do it very slowly by weaning off.My dr. unfortunately didn't suggest that.

Hey michaela, Man, I REALLY don't want to discourage you, but I STRONGLY recommend staying away from paxil! If you go down a few posts from the "Setbacks" menu, I have a post there about my experience with paxil. Right now I'm going through a "Living Hell" with withdrawal symptoms. I too felt better when I began taking it ( maybe just a pyschological crutch?), but I'm paying dearly for it now! Now I'm no MD and don't work int the medical field, so I can't say what is right or wrong for you, but type in "Paxil Withdrawals" in any Search Engine on the internet and do some serious research. We are all looking for that "Miracle Cure", but I don't think you'll find it with Paxil. Just my $.02 worth. If you would like to, you may e-mail me jjmosher@yahoo.com. I hope this doesn't discourage you, But I hope it may help keep you from going through what I am right now. :(

Hi everyone! I was just wondering about the meds problem. I've been on Paxil for three days now and I feel better already. I'm on 12.5mg for 2 weeks and then go up to 25mg. a day after that. I have to admit that after reading these posts I'm getting a little anxious just thinking about having to switch medications so much. Is there anyone out there who has been on one medication for a long time and has not had to switch??? Also, is there anyone out there who has had success with Paxil and feels that it's right for them? :confuse:

Hi Krista, I was on Serzone many years ago. I tried Zolof but it was too strong for me and made me feel horrible. Sometimes it takes a long time to find the med. that is best for you. I remember when I went through the time of searching for the proper med. for me. I had withdraw symptoms and overdose symptoms all at the same time. It's really hard to go through any change in meds. I am now on Lorazapam and no antidepressants. I don't believe that everyone who is on antidepressants need them. It's easy for a doctor to say that that is what your problem is. Sometimes it's only a symptom of you problem. So often people are treated for the symptoms and not the real cause of the symptoms. Are you in any type of therapy right now? The right doctor can help you but only you know what you are feeling. Doctors are not perfect and only you know what is best for you. You really need to know what the true problem is, is it the depression that causes other symptoms or is the depression a symptom of the cause. I don't know enough of your situation to really give advice. I'd love to hear more if your willing to talk about it. I know what depression is and it is a horrible thing, but it can be overcome with the right support. Take good care and remember,"things can always be worse." Lisa

Kristabelle- I have been taking one day at a time...Yesterday was bad but today looks brighter.I never know when/why the panic sets in but I think the meds are part of the problem - especially jumping from one to another or none.My doctor has been changing mine so often my body never gets used to the current one. Some of the natural remedies posted here sound helpful. The meditation seems plausible if you can take your mind off the episode in question.Hang in there - your not alone!
