Coffee - OY!

for 18 år siden 0 13 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I've been doing so well. Today is the beginning of my 7th day - and I've been working out (every day since quitting) and drinking tea and chewing the nicorette gum. And then this morning, I thought I'd join my mate for a cup of coffee - as even though I stopped drinking coffee since my quit, I still like making it for him. I thought maybe I could drink a small cup too. And I made it and I sipped it and oh lord....it was like it triggered something crazy in me. After those couple sips - ALL I could think about was smoking. He had to leave in 20 minutes and all I could think was "just go, please go" because I did have 3 cigarettes in a pack hidden that I figured I'd keep just to show myself that I could keep cigarettes and not smoke them (which I now admit was total bull***t reasoning) So, I got angry with myself for having kept the 3 cigarettes but figured, well, now I have them and one of - to smoke ONE - what's the big deal? - it's not even the brand of cigarettes I ever liked. And as soon as his car had left the driveway I immediately went to my 3 cigarette stash and pulled one out - walked down the stairs to the kitchen where I was going to have to light it on the stove because I've thrown away all the matches - and I got there and I stood there telling myself it was no big deal but still feeling REALLY bad and without thinking I just walked into the bathroom and flushed the thing down the toilet. Then I went and got TWO pieces of gum and chewed them and have been on this site for a half hour reminding myself of all the reasons I quit smoking and how happy I am that I DON'T SMOKE. In fact, I'd better go throw out those two other cigarettes right now so that this situation doesn't repeat itself. Ok, they're gone now. Boy, that was a REALLY close one. So glad to have this site here. Helps put things back in perspective. Hey - thanks so much all. I've calmed down quite a bit and am back on track. It really is a kind of panic that takes over - and the panic is filled with enormous feelings of self-doubt. I know I can do this. I've been doing it for almost 1 week and I've been doing great. I didn't even have a slip....just contemplated having a slip - so good for me. Congratulation Rainie on your 3 days! Yes, I am proud of myself - thanks for reminding me that I should be. :) Congratulations Bullseye on your 5! ( You know, I remember when you first posted about your quit and that you'd thrown away all of your smoking stuff - and I thought to myself "well, ok, I didn't do that, but I really think I'll be fine without having done that" I should have known then when mulling over your post that I was making an error) Good for you for throwing everything away BEFORE you quit! I hope things are going well for you w/husband and children during your quit - you're giving them and yourself a great gift by choosing to be a non-smoker. And Jan - congratulations -- 15 days is awesome. In another week I will almost be where you are. As far as the coffee is concerned - I'm very jealous. You lucky lady. For me, two sips and it was like sirens going off in my head. Enjoy a cup for me please. Tessa: Wow that was a great thing you just did...Your headed straight for 8 days and beyond...I can sympathize with you when it comes to wanting just one...You did all the right things and now your still on track...that is a huge huge accomplishment... The greatest thing about it is that having gone through the experience you now have it in your arsenal of weapons and can call upon it in time of need... Keep fighting and again great job on 7 days... Nonic

So glad you got through that one. It's funny what sets our triggers off. I have always had coffee with cigs, and now that I don't smoke, I enjoy my coffee even more. There are other things that set me off, though. Have a good one, Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/13/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 464 Amount Saved: $135 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 17 Mins: 48 Seconds: 51

Tessa, Patting you on the back! Good job! You passed this very hard test. Coffee is a trigger for many. Some choose to stay away from it until they are more comfortable in their quit. Others choose one of the following: * Drinking decaf * Mixing it half/half with decaf or hot chocolate Didn't it feel good to flush those cigs? You have prooved you are stronger than your addiction. Congratulations! Time for a reward! Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

No cigs anywhere around you!!! EVER. Stay strong and try some flavoured tea or hot cocoa in the morning.
