Thinking about ...Thoughts and Words

for 17 år siden 0 169 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I have been thinking about it quite a bit too. I think your mind makes things harder or easier, it just depends on what you think about. Even things other people say if you pay attention can drag you down. Like "quitting smoking is so hard, I hear it is harder than quitting heroin" or "how is it going? I'll bet you're ready to kill someone by now" or "the fact is most people eventually go back to smoking." Good grief. My dear Penguin, I really do try to stay out of your head, you know! And I don't want to sound like Pollyanna, but I do think it is true that where we dwell is where we dwell. I am getting ready to take this test, you know, and I am having some anxiety about one part of it, and I am instead trying to find the right action for being productive and keeping my confidence high. As you say, the fear is the itch that I'm trying not to scratch. By the way, wrap your arms around yourself and squeeze because you deserve a great big hug! We quit smoking -- we can do anything! That was just what I was thinking!!!!!! You have been in my head again Rusty. The last few days have been rough, and after hiding under the covers, I awoke with the thought that I really needed to climb out of this pit...the pit of my own making through.....my thoughts. Yes, I'm tired....Yes, my body hurts....Yes, my mind hurts. Get over it, I said!!!!! Stop thinking those thoughts and get back to what has worked the last 3 weeks.....not thinking those thoughts. It's working.....the itch.....it is gone. Thanks for that! I've been thinking about thinking and the thoughts we have. I've also been thinking about language and the words we use. When we think about negative things, our mind tends to stay that way...toward negativity. When we focus on loss, pain, misery, it becomes hard to climb out of that dark hole. When we say things that are kind of exaggerated or use very strong words, like "horrible" or "I feel like I felt on my first day" or "I feel like I'm dying", then not only does that keep us in a negative place, but others who are reading those words as well. Try replacing "horrible" with "bearable." Try saying "I had a crummy day, but I'm getting through it." Try saying "I can do this" instead of "I don't think I can." Try thinking "I am healing" rather than "I am craving." How about "I am so proud of myself" instead of "I am so miserable." I understand that we all have a rough time sometimes. But when that happens, pay attention to your thoughts and your words. Are you uplifting yourself and others? Are you dwelling in misery or in a positive place? Can you imagine yourself healthy and free? These are the kinds of thoughts that will help us through day by day. Give it a try!
