Members, An update: I have received a reply and as speculated, it will take some time for the community health centers to get organized. They hope to begin distribution of free NRT';s and Zyban as early as this fall. For the time being NRT';s are still available through the STOP study. If you would like more information on this study go to www.stopstudy.ca I know this may not be the answer some of you were hoping to hear but this is a positive step in the fight against addiction! Hi Fly, Well, regardless of whether you get the Zyban - it sounds like you are ready. Have you gone through the quit program on the left? There are great strategies for how to cope with different triggers and some really helpful things. One great thing about smokers (for the most part) is we are a very determined lot. Once we harness that commitment and dedication to our quits we are unstoppable. In my opinion, preparation, a positive attitude and the willingness to hang in no matter what comes are the biggest factors in success. A lot of people find that quitting was much easier than they ever imagined. All the best and congrats on deciding to quit! The freedom on the other side is well worth it. Hey Mercy :) "So.... did I get ya wondering about your patches? " No ... I know they're the real thing ;) "How are you really doing with not smoking." My quit date is June 6th! "How long do they supply your patches." 5 weeks "Is it all the patches you want." Nope - they determine which strength you need according to your smoking history, then hand over 5 weeks worth. "Could you choose another NRT...or was that the only choice" You can choose either the patches or the nicotine gum. "Do you have to see them weekly with a log?" No - but the people running the study contact you for a follow up - this is the paragraph from the study web site ... I was placed in Group 2: If you are in Group 1 you will receive 1 week of NRT (either patch, gum or inhaler) at your first appointment and then will return to the pharmacy for 2 additional brief cessation counselling sessions with the pharmacist where you will be given another 2 weeks of NRT each time (for a total of 5 weeks of NRT). If you are in Group 2 you will receive five weeks of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) at your first appointment along with a single brief cessation counselling session with the pharmacist. The type and dose of NRT you will be given will be decided by the pharmacist and will depend on how much you smoke and your personal preference. You will then be contacted by study personnel 5 weeks after your quit date to see how you are doing with your attempt to quit smoking. You may also be contacted at 6 and 12-months after completing the study to answer some additional questions. This is an important way of measuring the effectiveness of providing this smoking cessation treatment free of charge. Although ... there was no "cessation counseling" ...

Bear, What is in your hand?? Is that a poor fish? Let the fish go. You don't see Mr Ed doing that. He eats Hay. Stick to your berries and leave the fish alone! The band... Gosh.. that was years ago. It was a country club..wedding...party..band. It was in the days before DJ's sort of took over live music. They were all music teachers. The piano player was awesome. I was just the side kick. It was mostly a little of everything. From oldies like Frank Sinatra....to Kenny Rogers....Pokas....country western..... (all the 1970 -1980 erra)..even a little disco.. LOL LOL It was lots of fun and some good side money. It was a popular band in it's time. Seems like yesterday....but really a long time ago. I was in my late 20's early 30's at the time. I quit in my early 30's. So.... did I get ya wondering about your patches? How are you really doing with not smoking. How long do they supply your patches. Is it all the patches you want. Could you choose another NRT...or was that the only choice. Do you have to see them weekly with a log? Better yet**************do you have to do the PEE Test? LOL :8o: Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 133 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,660 Amount Saved: $594.51 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 12 Mins: 30 Seconds: 15

Thanks for the heads-up RM! That organization you mentioned ... I'm already signed up for their study, and receiving their NRT products for free. It's the Zyban part of the government's promise that is missing. I've sent e-mail to approximately 150 memebers of government and health-related organizations across the province. Hopefully, I'll have some responses tomorrow.

Fly When we sign in to use this program we agree to not post email address or web sites that are outside of the VCC which is a private research organization that also develops web based tools for healthcare. If you wish read about VCC at the bottom of this screen. I was breaking the rules. So I presumed that the web site and name of the helping organization that I placed in my response would be removed. I was also responding a while after your initial post and I thought you might not see what I had replied. Good luck with finding your way through. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 471 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,775 Amount Saved: $3,768.00 Life Gained: Days: 76 Hrs: 19 Mins: 40 Seconds: 5

I understand fully that the StopStudy program supplies only the NRT';;;;s, and that Zyban is a prescription drug, only available via prescription. My whole point here is that there is no access to the free Zyban, and no one - whether in government or associated with this new government initiative - can offer any information. We could assume that, since it';;;;s a relatively new initiative, all of the features might not yet be in place. But that';;;;s not what the government';;;;s announcement said - they used present tense when referring to all of these things.
