I threw them out. At least I was only 3 days in so the catch up won't be as long. It's kind of a now or never for me. Thanks. Jason, So let's say you quit in the fall, but you have an "Indian Summer" so to say, where the weather is beautiful and warm late in the year. What's to stop you from smoking then? Or perhaps, you quit in the fall, but by Spring, when the weather starts to get nice again, you long for that ole cigarette that you used to "enjoy" when it was nice outside. If your reason for NOT quitting is because of the weather, then what's to stop you from going back to smoking when the weather gets nice again? I too quit in June, and I also LOVED sitting outside, enjoying the beautiful weather, having a smoke. But quitting became more important to me... and now (and even when I first quit) I sit outside WITHOUT a smoke. It IS doable!
I love being outside but when I'm outside I can't just stand there and do nothing.
Then do something else!!! Quitting is all about changing our routines and our lifestyles in order to cut smoking out of our lives. That's not always an easy thing to do, but you CAN quit AND still be outside! Just come up with some other things to do while you're out there... read a book while enjoying the sunshine, take walks, do some gardening... there are things you can do outside that do not involve smoking. Will being outside always be a trigger for you? No. The more we do something smoke free, the easier that activity becomes, to the point where we don't crave at all when doing it. I don't EVER think about smoking when I'm sitting outside on my porch! Because I conquered that trigger a long time ago... even though when I smoked, the ONLY place I smoked was my porch. So you CAN conquer your triggers, but you have to WANT to quit more than you want to SMOKE. Do you? If so, then join us now. Don't let the weather dictate whether or not you will live a healthy long life or not. Crave the Quit! Jason, you are not alone on your thinking. I said the same exact things to myself. The nice weather is coming there will be get togethers, I can't just stand around I have to smoke. When I go sit outside --I smoke when I am outside...what in the heck would I do if I quit? Well, now that I quit....I can not only walk and talk without loosing my breath, I have now started to jog. I never in my wildest dreams thought I could walk and talk and the same time now I jog, can walk 3 miles at a shot, and I can ride a bike without feeling like my lungs and heart are going to explode. I smoked for all of my adult life and had nooo clue how I was not going to be a smoker. All I have ever known is being a smoker. What do I do now? Where do I go? How do I do it? Well, I want to be able to breath first of all. I want to be able to play and laugh with my children. I want to be able to one day laugh and play with my grandchilren. I want to be proud of myself. I want to love myself. So you see Jason, You are NOT alone. Many of us...have felt the same way you have. YOU CAN DO IT. Believe in yourself and trust in your self. You are stronger than the addiction. Don't get me wrong. It isn't always easy...but, nothing i mean nothing is easy. And, this is something that you won't ever regret doing... one day at a time sometimes one minute and then there are times i had to just get through the seconds. but the seconds add up the minutes add up and the days add up..we are here for you jason...just brush yourself off and put your head up high take it one day at a time, one crave at a time. ? lolo My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/24/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 44 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 880 Amount Saved: $198.00 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 14 Mins: 47 Seconds: 55

Yeah, thanks. I definitely want to quit and am rather perturbed with myself at this point. As for being ready...I wonder if anyone is ever really ready to quit. It would seem to me the want would turn to need that would have to override the readiness. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I'd rather be able to say this fall I have 4 months under my belt and by next summer it would be a year and I'd definitely be over it. I should just take the pack I have next to me and run it under water or something and start over. Now that I did smoke I can't even recall the reason I did or possible future scenarios that made me want to. This is ridiculous.... Jason, I think the only reason people smoke is because they are addicted. It is a physical and psychological addiction. I know you are feeling overwhelmed right now, but I urge you to take some time to look at what smoking offers versus the freedoms you acquire as a nonsmoker. The reasons for quitting have to be meaningful to you. It very well could be that you just aren't ready to do this yet. If that is the case, come back when you are ready to try again. We'll be here when you are ready. I do want to encourage you to not think of this as a failure, but as a learning experience. If anything, learn from this and it will help you quit in the future. It is clear to me that you are disappointed in your slip. The fact that you came here and announced that you slipped makes me think that it is possible that maybe you really do want to quit, but you just don't have the coping skills to do it yet. There are lots of folks here that can help you Jason, if you choose to reach out for it. Whatever you choose to do Jason, I wish you all the best. The usual reasons I suppose. Wife, kids, would like to live long enough to see grandkids. tired of stinking at work and home. get winded easily. It's just nice weather, really, I love being outside but when I'm outside I can't just stand there and do nothing. I realize it all sounds asanine as a reason to smoke, but I believe I'd fair much better with less than stellar weather. I don't know...how can anyone really explain why they smoke? Jason, What was your motivation for quitting? Sometimes the addict in each of us can be rather deceitful and overwhelming. It's still not to late to give up this terrible addiction. I wish you would reconsider. Day 4: Well, I failed. Thought about the whole summer and being outside, taking care of the yard, parties, blah de blah. I broke down and smoked this morning. I should have waited until fall to quit, which I guess I'll do at this point as dissapointing as it is. I've been reading a lot around here and commend those currently battling through it. I just don't have it in me right now to trudge along with you. Good luck.
