Deb48, So sorry to hear of your loss and I know that ,especially in the first few weeks of my quit, any strong emotion had me wanting a smoke. But ... what you are doing is not depriving yourself of something. What you are doing is recovering from a horrible addiction and you are in early recovery. That is a time when all we can do is hang on and stick with our decision NO MATTER what the junkie is telling us. As each day passes we get stronger and the junkie gets weaker. You are doing great. You've come through Hell Week. You're so close to being through Heck Week. Hang on Deb. Go to bed if you have to. This day is almost done and there is a really good chance tomorrow will be better! My oh my...I've had a few glasses of chardonnay tonight..and can't see what all the positive talk and feeling is all about..I miss my cigs and the companionship & the hiding of feelngs..... It's not been a good day--with the loss of a good friends son... How much time do we have here--and is it worth the deprivation? I have not smoked and probably won't yet...just want to know don't YOU wonder too????? Great post, Lainey!!!! I find I'm actually beginning to like the new me, now that "new me" is emerging! I'm not quite as grumpy as I was. I have more patience now, and I appreciate the little things more than I did when I was smoking. The other day I ate a sour apple candy and I could really taste it. It was good. I never would have thought of that before. I listen intently now, to what's going on around me. Things I never would have noticed before. I'm actually starting enjoy life as a non smoker. Cheers, Jan :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/27/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 925 Amount Saved: $314.50 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 7 Mins: 17 Seconds: 43

My, Oh, My, Ms Lainey ... I'm going to have to make you an honorary Irish woman because you're not shy about your feelings and emotions and you express them so well... and also, because you've helped me through days when I had the itchy lungs and the confused tail-spinning (that's the way it felt to me) and you made me fly straight... you're honest and forthright and I need to hear that from you and the other members so I can keep my head on straight also.... Thanks again for the posts... Lainey, This really is a lovely post. Its nice to see the changes you made along the way. At only 5 weeks smoke free, I'm beginning to feel a little calmer than I did when I smoked. I take more time to listen to people, and to take an interest in things that never interested me before. I guess that's because I was too busy smoking! Love your insight, Cheers, Jan :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/27/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 35 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 875 Amount Saved: $297.50 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 1 Mins: 22 Seconds: 46

I feel a lot of the same things that you do, Lainey! It's nice to see someone else appreciate being able to "feel" stuff - I like that. Your stats are beautiful, and you're beautiful... you've done so much around here for everyone and we're lucky to have you. I had to dig this old one up. Because today I was thinking, what has changed in this past year? I still get the odd mild crave, (like yesterday, when shopping.)Yes that junkie never seems to give up, he's a pathetic little whimp now but he still tries with a "Wanna smoke?" But he is much easier to blow off now, with a deep breath and a "Not on your life! NOPE!" The price to pay, is just too high to go back there! I am calmer, I am mellower, I can breathe and I am so much more healthy! My children and Hubby are still blown away that I actually quit - after 703 times.(LOL) I am also more emotional. My emotions are right under the surface, rather than burried under several thousand layers of old smoke! I like that I can feel them now, instead of running to smoke and hide them, like I used to do. Would I go back? Not a chance! The freedom is so worth all the stuff we went through the first few weeks. I know I am an addict. I know I can never go back. I know that I never want to go back. And I know I will always have to remember NOPE! The new me, is a calmer, wiser, and oh yes, smarter version of me than before. And the good old me is here too, the happy go lucky one! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 363 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,075 Amount Saved: $3,829.65 Life Gained: Days: 47 Hrs: 15 Mins: 58 Seconds: 40
