Overcoming the Fear of Failure

Hi ItsIronic ... boy could I go into a huge shpill about me having dirt kicked in my face over and over and over again. When you concentrate on the dirt ... of course you want to give up, to give yourself an out, to tell yourself that the dream is not in the cards for you. But once you get back up, and clean yourself off ... and stop concentrating on the dirt (you've brushed it off, remember?), you can once again push forward. Never give up on your dreams. You can get a new house and a new job. Look at what you are doing and figure out what is not working and change it. Don't worry about the things that are out of your control. Nothing you can do about that. Concentrate on what is within your control. And you know ... right when we get the dirt kicked in our face ... of course we feel like throwing the towel in most of the time. What is important is that we get up and that that feeling passes and we do decide to keep on keeping on ... just like with our quits. Smoking will not get you a new house or a new job. Smoking makes nothing better ... it wants you to believe that it does ... but you have come too far now ItsIronic ... you know that is just a big lie. Chin up ... keep on truckin'! ~Breaking Free~ My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 793 Amount Saved: $104 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 5 Mins: 24 Seconds: 39

Dear Breaking Free You are a sweetheart! There is so much more to quitting smoking then just not smoking. There are things that I LOVE about the quit. But the things I hate are....suddenly I am a weepy girl! When I am bummin, I tear up. I now have to accept that I was not a strong independent woman as I thought. I guess I hid tears behind smoking all those years! I appriciate your kind words of wisdom. signed We are not failures darn it! Dear Breaking Free I loved reading this about fear of failure. I am going through a few things right now that I do fear failure. 1st...this quit...............2nd buying a house and 3rd a new and better job. So far #1 I am doing! wooohooo But 2nd and 3rd (house and new job) I am not. I follow all the advice and even though I am scared I keep trying. The house gig has fallen apart THREE times at closing by no fault of my own. Each disaster I do take what I learnt to make sure it did not happen again.....but there was always another hidden disaster. MY QUESTION is When do you say When??? I tried and fell and bruised and cut myself about 30 times trying to water ski. I kept saying Don't be a winmp and Don't give up! My friends finally said....Hey..you are not meant to be on water skis, but you drive the boat really well, that is your gig! They gave me permission to give up. WHEN DO YOU SAY WHEN without being a failure?? WHEN is it time to give up on that dream? It is possible your dream is just not in the cards! Even though the failure of not getting the dream house or job is not failing at the quit.......... Each time I fail at geting the house or job, I can't think of a thing that will make me feel better then smoking! Awesome post, Breaking Free. I'm sure it wasn't written with quitting smoking in mind, but it is so appropriate.
