Evil scales, streets of wee, and other stories

for 17 år siden 0 911 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Todash, I used the scale today and it said the same thing as last weekend. Oh well, not like I changed anything. I'll put it away another week. Yesterday I started walk/running. Walk 5 minutes briskly and then ran as long as I could comfortably, repeat. Seems the biking exercise was just too much coasting and not enough "pain" to make any difference. Bought some nice running shoes today. I always hated running even when I simply had to do laps for other sports like soccer, but I'm psyched to test my renewed lung power. Plus I think it takes less time and money for the greater payoff. You inspired me into this! Don't go too far I may need you :) Audrey My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/16/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 186 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,720 Amount Saved: $520.80 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 4 Mins: 32 Seconds: 32

I thought I was beginning to be friends with the scale again, but I withdrew my offer of a truce with it. I've been walking a little over 3 miles every day, and I've gained a pound. Muscle weighs more than fat??? I'm a full 10 pounds heavier than last year at this time, but only about 5 of it came after I stopped smoking. I've about decided this is my new "normal" weight. Nance, Audrey & Interesting, great to see you all doing so well too. Some huge milestones around the corner and just passed for everyone! It's great to be part of this fantastic bunch of quitters ;) May we all learn to be friends with the scale again. Me, I'm off to buy a gas mask and some potpourri to stuff inside it... x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 197 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,531 Amount Saved: 1,083.50 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 10 Mins: 43 Seconds: 57

Todash, Thanks for the wonderful post! Just yesterday I decided that the sense of smell might not be revealing a very "fresh" new world. Especially with such hot weather, poop is what I smell :gasp: Oh and after years and years of being "anti-scale" I bought one the other week. It stays put away for the most part. I will use it when it feels "safe" to do so. I "exercise" every day lightly. I need to step up my regimen though, from "I've got to keep moving" to "no pain no gain". You've inspired me! Great to hear from you! Todash, Congratulations on 6 months...outstanding! And for keeping your sense of humor! I am about your height, and I have surpassed your mark (but not by too much) and beginning to work at losing it. Spent some time at a mountain lake over the weekend, and I kept thinking..."what's that smell?" until I realized that it was fresh mountain air. Us "flatlanders" seem to get too used to the pollution, and the blue cloud of cig smoke. Good to hear from you! New Me you're well on your way - 50 days is HUGE. I felt the way you do around 50 days but the time has flown, you'll be here soon enough I'm sure. It is wonderful and inspiring, Todash, to hear from a totally free, comfortable, ex-smoker...I can't wait. i still have that nagging, empty feeling that is soooo aggrevating. You will lose the weight. I actually lost 10 pounds just by not eating any chips, cheese or drinking soda! but, now, the m & m godess is whispering in my ear. Thanks for giving us the encouragement we need. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 50 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,200 Amount Saved: $250.00 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 0 Mins: 24 Seconds: 47

Thanks Unhooked, Loulou, Danielle & Nonic :) I try to use a wry sense of humour to get me through all times, and it's been particularly useful when I quit smoking. There's so much to laugh at in life, and sometimes people just take things too seriously. I find laughing at myself and in the face of adversity really takes the bite off. Ah hell, there's that food thing again :p Waiter, check please! As for existential rants, nonic, you can just about bet you'll see more eventually! There's plenty to go around... x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 195 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,485 Amount Saved: 1,072.50 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 6 Mins: 29 Seconds: 10

Todash I love reading your posts, you have such a sense and ability to portray irony without seeming negative...its great...You also have that cheeky thing down...Must be your years on the other side of the pond...I hope that you are doing well and that London suits you like a glove...I lived for awhile in Scotland and found that to be a very interesting experience...Take good care of yourself and I hope that we will hear from you in the future...Oh and if you ever get into another existential rant be sure to publish it here... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 202 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,060 Amount Saved: $1,414.00 Life Gained: Days: 36 Hrs: 21 Mins: 45 Seconds: 3
