That was interesting for me....i wondered when epictetus lived..and how to spell his name..lol
Seems to me that way back in those "greece as center of all that was happening on earth" days, the education was well-rounded....covered factual knowledge, ethics, physical growth, art, and maybe more? These days formal education seems to mainly focus on acquiring, retaining, and manipulating factual knowledge. Which is good, but I think we often suffer because as socieities we don't value or revere the other "stuff" The awareness that we are responsible for what happens....to each of us individually as well as how we affect the greater sphere. I think that most of us have had to get that education on our own, I just wish it was more a global priority. I think how wonderful things could be..because I believe in love as the root of all.
Here in SSC, we seem to have a taste of it all..the factual knowledge, the struggle with the acknowlegement of personal responsibility, and also the realization that sometimes, "**** happens" and it isn't helpful to blame anyone, better just to go on.
