Is this Normal?

If you are like most of us, your cigarettes accompanied you everywhere and were a part of everything you did. I would smoke the minute I woke up in the morning, and the last thing at night. I didn't get up from a chair or move to a different room without having my pack with me. I couldn't drive one block down the street without them. So it stands to reason that there is this sense of loss for something that was physically closer to you than anything else in your life. Make sure that you understand that even though they were your companion, they were not your friend. Don't romanticize them. Instead learn how much they potentially hurt you, made you and your clothes smell bad, made your teeth yellow, and other things that a true friend would not do. Some folks on here wrote a good-bye letter to their cigarettes...that might be useful for you. Good luck! Hey Tammatt! Yes, it's perfectly normal, we all felt it, some more than others. It has to do with the drop of dopamine in the brain. It will get better! While you are here, read all the posts you can, there is a ton of helpful information in the posts here, especially some of the older ones! Congrats on quitting! Good for you! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 180 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,500 Amount Saved: $1,899.00 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 0 Mins: 23 Seconds: 31

Tammatt, Yes, many quitters feel just as you do and like any loss, you grieve it and move on. Don't be fooled, cigarettes are not your friend. They've just been coupled with a lot of things so it's normal to feel a little lost without them. It's time to start changing your habits and replacing that friend. Also be sure to work through the online quit program for further assistance with this. Hang in there. It can be done! Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Day one. I have tried several times in the past to quit smoking. And here we go again. I have smoked for 20 years, more than 1/2 my life. Anyways, my question is... Is it normal to feel such a sense of loss and sadness? I feel like I am mourning the death of my best friend. Did anyone else have these emotions when they quit smoking?
