thanks guys, Some of you are very understanding. I know that noone on this site would condone using nrt for too long, but condemnation or guilt are also self defeating. I am familiar with the website that you are talking about, rusty. It contains some great info. I know that putting nicotine back into my body did not help me, that is why i called it a set back. Gosh, Lainey, "set myself up" for what?...that is a scary statement. I need to continue to believe that I am going to succeed this time...inspite of any problems or stressor that come up. I know that they will always be there. I agree with Unhooked, You didn't do yourself any favors there, in fact you may have just set yourself up. You need to set up strategies to cope for the times when you get those feelings. Sit down and write out what you will do next time. What works for you? There has to be something! You need to address this now. It would drive me insane and make me want to smoke so bad. In time this does pass. When I would feel like this I would drink ice water and suck on peppermints. For some reason, Ice water gets that taste out of your mouth. I don't know why but it did for me. Buying the gum instead of cigarettes was definately better. Just realize that with the gum you have now put nicotine back into your system. When you stop using it you may go through a mini hell week. You may consider doing this as soon as possible and getting it over with. The longer you wait, the harder it will be. Kids are a trip that is for sure. I have three and have had to let my oldest go and make her own mistakes. The hardest part of being a parent is knowing when not to be. All we can do is raise them and teach them right from wrong. Once they get to a certain age, it is their life to live and there isn't much we can do about it. Get rid of the gum and enjoy your life nicotine free. Each situation you make it through makes you that much stronger. Congratulations on making it through another!!! new me, there is another web site that will kick you off permanently if you ingest nicotine in any way. Thank goodness that is not the case here. I think it's fair to see this as a little setback. But most important is the fact that you did not smoke. No one else can judge the pressures that you have in your life. Only you can make the choice of what is best for you. You are still you and you haven't smoked. I hope you get some relief for your stressors. It is a constant effort to put our children in the palm of God's hands and let go. I understand. Hi unhooked, My goal, of course, is to get through nicotine free. So, I would not say that it was OK with me to turn to nicotine. I just did not want to turn to smoking. And, I believe that I will not go and buy nic gum for every stressful situation in my future. It is just where i was at that time. Buying gum is better than buying smokes, new me. So, good for you for not going that far. But, is the goal to get through smoke-free or nicotine-free? It's your life & your quit, new me, & if you're OK with turning to nicotine to deal with everyday stress, then that's up to you. I don't think you did yourself any favours, though. I hope you are able to quit the gum when you want to, but it sounds a lot to me like, " Oh, you can have just one. You can always quit again." I'm sorry you're having a bad time & a lot if stress. Hi all, After I posted the "I want a cig so bad I can taste it" thread, the days continued to become more and more stressful..mostly involving concerns with my son. Anyway, I knew that I was going to smoke..I was on my last nerve. I recognized the pattern in my life from previous quits. I want to make it this time. I do not want to go back to smoking. So, I went and bought some nicotine gum. I know that it is a set back for me..but, I am not smoking. I understand that life will always have stressors and I need to handle them without smoking. Worries about my children are a major stressor for me. I just could not handle it at this time. But, I continue on..one foot in front of the other. I will give up the gum sometime soon. I know that if i perservere, I will succeed.
