What to Expect when you Quit!

Yes, a break doesn't not have to mean smoke. Slowly, I'm starting to get that into my head. Had some strong craving (but short lived) over the weekend and got through it. I think it's importan to get through tough cravings without caving in and think it will make us stronger. Well, I have always been an emotional one, and cried easily. That did not change, but I found that I had to re-learn how to feel my emotions and learn how to let them go. I really have noticed how much smoking drowned emotions before, how when I was upset, I smoked more and it drowned the emotions. What I have learned being a non smoker, is the emotions are still there, but if I recognize them and feel them and then let them go, I am far better off. The other thing I have notice is that emotions feel far more intense now, and that is not a bad thing at all! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 238 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,950 Amount Saved: $2,510.90 Life Gained: Days: 29 Hrs: 1 Mins: 54 Seconds: 19

Hello quit buddies!!! I haven't cried yet, but have problems watching movies that have sad moments. I've always recognized the sadness in the moment until it passes to another moment in the film but now my eyes begin to pool up. This is not a typical response for me. The experience of emotional withdrawal or the emotional toll of quitting was and sometimes still is baffling to me. The emotional aspects influenced by quitting are invisible to me until they hit me unaware. At the very least your emotional tolerance is lower allowing your system to overload sooner or easier. OMG, yes , aloha, I'm not a crier either. But I remember one time about 45-50 days quit. I was so frustrated at work, and I just burst into tears. Didn't even have a minute's warning to get to the washroom like a self-respecting tough broad would. Maybe it's because I'm not used to it but I don't cry pretty. When I do, it's heaving sobs, red nose, and snot & tears all over the freakin' place. Anyway, my friend in the next office, who knows I don't cry, says in this incredulous tone, " Are you CRYING???" Between sobs, I managed to get out, "Yes, I am but the important thing is what I'm NOT doing, I'm NOT smoking!" Bless his non-smoking heart, he said, "Alright then", & has never brought it up again. So, yeah, expect to cry, expect to have emotional things & new feelings take you by surprise. Embrace it, learn to feel it all, it's part of living free & it's part of who you are supposed to be. i've been missing you, too, cat, but i figured you were busy with school. Nice to catch up with you today :) I'm wondering if there is ANYONE who hasn't had at least one crying jag during this quitting process. Even those of us who don't cry very often, seem to be overcome at some point. It can be scary, but it does pass. Expect to feel very tired. For me, the exhaustion lasted for about a month. So, make sure you get plenty of rest early on. YEAH Aloha!!! I'm on that right now! been there the last month and am still doing it!!! With all the stress of life sometimes I get these wishings for smoking... when I'm sad, bored, stressed out... So I've been learning new ways to cope with the things life has... There are lot of non smokers that deal with the same feelings and situations WITHOUT smoking so it IS possible to do it! I simply have to learn it all again! :) usually these are the only things that trigger thos thoughts of smoking... sometimes they're easy to ignore other it's a bit harder you just have to be prepared to wait a bit a think of it in a clear way so you can really understand about what's going on... I think... kisses U all! :) (been missing posting and beeing a bit more active!...) Not neccessarily at 50-60 days, but somewhere in that newish quitting stage, I, and a lot of others, started to realize that we had to find new ways to deal with emotions other than running away from them by smoking. I avoided smoking today but came close. It's the only thing that's going right for me and I don't want to blow it. I sure hope next week is better and have hope. all the best My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 442 Amount Saved: $104.00 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 20 Mins: 41 Seconds: 9
