Weight gain is probably the most common side effect of quitting, or at least the one that concerns 99% of us ladies, and some of the guys! I allowed myself to eat what I wanted, because the quit came first. I gained 17 lbs all total! But in the last six weeks I have lost 14 lbs of it (and counting). It comes off again. So don't let weight be a detterent, keep your quit no matter what! It is far more important to be rid of that addiction first. The weight DOES so come off later on! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 270 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,750 Amount Saved: $2,848.50 Life Gained: Days: 32 Hrs: 23 Mins: 28 Seconds: 24

Hi Jodi, Your not alone with the weight gain thing. I have gain 10 pounds myself. Like you I am use to eating what I want without watching what I eat. I have started a daily exercise program and have begun to loose the weight slowly. I still eat what I want HOWEVER, I watch the amount of what I like. This works for me. I am sure you will fine your diet/exercise balance with time. Good Luck and don't give up. Thanks Breanna, I am looking forward to a much healthier lifestyle! Well Goofy, luckily for me it's not swimsuit weather in Oregon, more like SNOWsuit weather! And you are right, we are all starting something much greater for ourselves. I should not get all whiny over ten measly pounds! Jodi, It sounds like you are motivated to get back on track and in shape. Try to find a work out buddy to help keep you motivated and get your husband on board with eating healthy. You probably do look healthier now then ever, your colour has come back, no more yellow finger nails, you smell great. Keep up the great work! Brenna, Bilingual Support Specialist

It's always swimsuit weather! I started eating like mad, and I still eat all day. My problem is that by the time I get home from work, I don't want to go to the gym. I'm starting the new routine tonight. I figure, the one month it took to start feeling sort of normal, it's time to forge ahead. Our second month should be the start of something greater. So I finally got brave enough to step on the scale, and I've gained 10 pounds in 6 weeks! The first few weeks of my quit, practically all I did was eat, sleep and read stuff on this site. I never had to watch my weight before. I could eat all I wanted and never gain. I felt happy with my size. This morning I couldn't get my favorite jeans on. My husband says I look great, and one of my friends said she thinks I look healthier than ever, but I'm just not comfortable with it. I think it is time for me to deal with this. Lately I've had more energy and haven't been craving food as much. I definitely don't want to jeopardize my quit, but I also don't want to get big or have to buy a new wardrobe. I am going to be more careful about what I eat, and I'm going to get back into working out at the gym. I used to love to work out, but I stopped going last summer when my kids were out of school. Also, ski season will be here soon!! I wonder, if I was so addicted to smoking, maybe I could get equally addicted to being healthy and staying fit?! If I could be strong enough to quit smoking, maybe I could be strong enough to lead a totally healthy lifestyle?! Well, thanks for letting me deal with this here. Six months till swim suit weather!
