Allison! Congratulations on 8 moths quit! And Congrats on all the rest too! That is great! Another March Mellow Quitter. We really had a great bunch of quitters with at least 25 quitters still going! I am really glad you dropped in today to say Hi and tell us how you are doing! Your quit buddy Lamplighter has a thread going for his eight months today as well! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 246 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,150 Amount Saved: $2,595.30 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 2 Mins: 1 Seconds: 50

I used this site a lot when I first quit smoking. It was what got me through the day. When I quit smoking I didn't want to gain a lot of weight so I decided to start running. When I first started I could only run 200 meters (1/2 way around a track). In the evening, after work, when I wanted to smoke, I would run. This became my new addiction. When I would run I wouldn't think about smoking and when I finished I was so tired that I didn't think about smoking. This was pretty much the only time I didn't think about it. I got better and better and the desire to smoke gradually faded away. This past Saturday I ran my first 1/2 marathon (13.2 miles). It was awesome. So, 2007 is the year I took my life back...200+ days of no smoking and 37 pounds lighter. The bottom line was I made the decision that I wasn't going to fall into the trap of quitting and gaining, I had options and I chose to win both fights. Keep up the journey....It is well worth it. I have not been here for a while but thought I would check in today. You can loose weight and not loose your quit. I am living proof. I quit smoking 959 days ago. I was already classified as obese. My doc said smoking was the more dangerous of th 2 at the time. I had been quit for a year when I went in for my checkup. I was feeling good but was now classified as morbidly obese. Boy was I fat. I am now down to the overweight category. I have lost over 70 pounds and still have a ways to go but I don't smoke. I am going to be 60 in 6 days. I am in better shape than I have ever been. I have great legs. I walk every day. I make choices about food. No I don't eat a really restictive diet. I eat between 1250 and 1550 in calories and use the food pyramid to try and make better choice. It has been a long and slow process but I am living proof you can make it. Enjoy the ride, it is worth it. GrandMa Thanks for taking the time to stare what you are doing. It has taken me about 7 weeks to even think about loosing weight. I have been so focused on my quit!!! Until now I could not even go to the weight -gain section.. I also would not read any post that was too negative or had anything to do about slipping.. I guess I am feeling a little more secure lately. I have done this "no sugar" before and it really seemed to jump start my metabolism. It is just 2 weeks without sugar & other carbs, then you ad the carbs back to your daily diet... Hope this works.. It has been a long first day w/out SUGAR!! Ya know, I may be addicticed to sugar??? Is that even possible?? I never really did a diet before in fact until I was about16 and had my tonsils out I did everything to gain weight daily milkshakes rtc. never liked desserts. Couple years ago I dropped 10 lbs. doing the slimfast thing. Now I'm back up with 10 lbs. but the body weight index the doctor did on my complete exam showed me perfect. Yeah righ I can't get into bathing suit and I jiggle when I walk. So I'm doing the WW thing and it's hard figuring the points and stuff cause if I cook something you have to add up the extras and stuff like salad dressing which allows you not enough to cover the salad. But I did lose a pound and if I weighed naked it would have been more. So we'll see. I'm concentrating on non edible substitutes for smoking. Straws, breathing, water (which I hate it causes too many bathroom trips)You really just have to change your lifestyle as diets only work temporarily. Hoping someone would have a magic pill... The last successful diet for me was in 1995.. I had given birth to my 2nd daughter and could not take the weight off... It was the Atkins no sugar diet!!! One day at a time! Start by checking with your doctor or a trainer and see what is right for you and your body. Smaller portions, healthier choices, and increasing your water intake, are all excellent ways to tackle the weight. Introducing exercise can also be of assistance. Take it slow and by choosing one method or item at a time, you will fair well :) Josie, Support Specialist
