I'm doing a lot better today. Not so many cravings. It's really a relief. I'm looking forward to Day 6. It's good you didn't smoke after drinking. Most people do both if they do one. I don't drink but had a similar problem with coffee but now can drink that. I think the chantix helps me a lot. all the best My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/17/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 27 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 459 Amount Saved: $108.00 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 1 Mins: 28 Seconds: 49

I didn't go out Sparky, but had a couple of drinks at home. It didn't trigger me to have a cigarette which is good. I never did associate drinking with smoking strangely. I guess I'm peculiar. I don't want to go out right now and be around people who smoke...it just makes it so much harder to stay quit whether I have a drink or not. I don't know how long I have to isolate myself from it...I feel like a prisoner in my own home. It's not a pleasant feeling to say the least. I'm kind of angry about it actually. But I know I'll get over it. Hope you all have a great smoke free day. One puff has done me in more that I can count. Don't do it :eg: You are doing great. Please be careful about drinking in the first few days. I have seen lots lose their quits because of a drink or two. That was not an issue for me since I don't drink, but others have had trouble. If you chose to go out and have a few please keep your list handy and have a way to leave before you give in. Hey Gin, One puff will do me in too. That is what we all have in common. Sounds like you have some great plans to keep you smoke free. Stay busy and if you can, change up your routine as much as possible. Have fun and be kind to yourself, stay smoke free! Rusty is right, the issues may be the same for having various addictions. You are a very wise and strong person for taking control over your life. Hang in there, I know it is not easy but, you will be glad that you did! :)G My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 145 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,350 Amount Saved: $696.00 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 14 Mins: 2 Seconds: 12

Hi Ginette, you sound like you are really keeping your head together and that is awesome. You might talk to your counselor about nicotine addiction as well. I went to a substance abuse counselor a few weeks after I quit. I think there are many of the same issues when you are dealing with an addiction. You sound great today! Hi Grin Thanks for the encouragement...I know I can't have that one puff...it will do me in. I'm really spaced out right now. Not in my plate. But that's part of the withdrawal symptoms eh? I'm also feeling some anxiety more so now than before. I'm taking deep breaths off and on, trying to ease the anxiety. This week-end I'm planning on chairing a meeting...Saturday night. And I'm going to a pot luck supper Sunday night. There will be smokers at both events and I hope I'll be able to stay away from it. I don't need it to be in my face. As a smoker I didn't care either if someone quit or not, I just smoked anyway. So I have to expect it from others with my quit. I'm not going to the club tonight because there's smokers there too. They smoke outside but it's still a trigger for me. I can smell it when they come back in and it creates quite a craving in me. I don't need that. So I have to isolate myself for a while until I feel safe in going to certain places. I'm going to take a bath and relax tonight. Tomorrow I see a counsellor for gambling addiction and I'm looking forward to that...I quit gambling 8 months ago and feel pretty good about that. So if I can quit gambling surely I can quit smoking eh? Easier said than done I think. Smoking is the hardest habit to break in my books. Will check later to see if there's any feedback. Take care all. Hey Gin, Read your reply on the 12/12/07 thread but thought I'd respond on the newer one. Glad to hear that you are hanging in there. Sounds like you are getting stronger and stronger in your resolve. Good for you!! You can do it. But, you have to stay quit by not taking one puff ever!! I know you know that! Also, the weekend is coming up, have you thought about activities that will keep you occupied and smoke free? It is really a good idea to have a plan and even a back up plan in place. I just know that you will do great. You have been such a trouper. It is not easy but, you know you are worth it!! Hang tough and know my hand is here for you to hang on to, Gwen :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 145 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,350 Amount Saved: $696.00 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 13 Mins: 55 Seconds: 20

Hi Alpha, glad to hear you're doing good. Yeah, it smells great since I quit smoking. No offensive smell to deal with. That's a definite plus. As you know, I've been dealing with cravings galore, but I'm hanging in there. I check my post on the wall to remind me why I quit smoking. It helps quite a bit. My reward today is to have a couple of drinks of Sambuka...it's a licorice liqueur. I love it and I don't have it very often. But I will this time and will enjoy it without the awful taste of cigarettes in my mouth. Cigarettes do kill the taste of something good, eh? The curious thing is that I've been getting heartburn since I got up this morning. It doesn't seem to go away although it's easing some. I guess smoking affects your digestive system too. My, but it affects a lot of things. No wonder we have so much trouble quitting. But it's worth it...every bit of it. How's the rest of the DeQuitters? You two are looking good! Ginette, remember - the only way to get rid of these cravings forever is to keep powering through. Take a bath, a nice brisk walk or a nap. Smoking is what caused you to feel this way...it isn't the solution. Do you have any rewards planned for today or for your first week completed? Even if it is something small it will give you something to look forward to and help keep your spirits lifted.
