How Ironic you should answer Penquin. When I think of my blown diets you come to mind. All the times you were frustrated and wanted to give up but wanted the quit. How I tried my best to find the right words and just kept trying until something finally clicked for you. I don't know what it was but I was so glad to see you tasting the freedom of being smoke free and succeeding. I am so proud of you and your quit becuase you fought so hard for it and never gave up. You always inspired me because of your inner strength. I guess this is a bit of role reversal here. Now I'm the one who can't seem to fly. I know what it took to quit smoking. Perhaps it is the memory of how hard it was and how painful that keeps me from wanting to approach another life style change regardless of the benefit. Psycological don't you think? I've joined the sister site. I hope to find a buddy there. Buddys save you from yourself time and time again right? I know mine have in the smoking arena. ONe step at a time I suppose. I will say that you have always been a big supporter of mine through all my slips and relapses - when I just could seem to get it right, to learn and understand what it was I needed to do, to find the right motivation and to find the right tools. What was the biggest lesson - DO NOT SMOKE!!!! In a similar light then, could there not be as equal an equation to losing weight, such as: Inidividualized appropriate diet and exercise = WEIGHT LOSS! Look at your by-line. A lot of what you learned in quitting may have to be revisited and applied (as painful as it is/was) to changing your lifestyle to realize a healthier you. The tools: make a commitment, get some on-line support (there is plenty of sites), read, read, read, find a buddy. You know it all Lady, you just have to pull it out and look at it in a different light perhaps? We all know how some peole have a hard time quitting. They seem to slip and slip and slip and we all get frustrated but no one is more frustrated than they are with themselves because they just don't know why they can't get it right. Well, that is how I am with the weight loss. I don't have the right motivation, the right tools. I don't know what I do wrong. Ok, I do. I eat! I like to eat. There is comfort in food. Well I was doing weight watchers and over the last month let myself slip away from it and was allowing myself to eat whatever I wanted because I had quit smoking and it was the holidays. Is this a reasonable excuse? No, I put on 8 of the 13 pounds I had lost and now feel terrible about my weight again. Should I feel bad? Yes, because I know better! Am I going to let the depression take over? No, I am going to flip it over and make it motivate me to lose weight and overall feel healthier. I no longer can use the excuse that I can eat whatever I want just so I won't smoke because now the hardest part of staying away from smoking is over. I can still eat but the snacks should be healthy and I know this is do-able. Usually you can justify anything, but knowing better I should stop doing that as I won't be able to justify anything when I get health related issues from being over-weight. I do not agree with the way your appt was handled but maybe it's the shocking reality you needed to motivate you. Don't be too hard on yourself just start working at it. You already know what you can achieve by your high stats of not smoking so put this as your main focus now. I would recommend WW to anyone even if you have to go at it alone (maybe the people at work will see how well you are doing on the program and it will motivate them to join) It is totally worth the money to have to account to the scale each week and it teaches healthy tips and advice and you have a real life support group. Don't get down, get up and start exercising and eating right! I don't want to be too preachy and please don't take this negatively, I really want you to succeed but things don't always come across the right way for me. Good luck and keep me posted, we can do this together. If you can quit smoking, you can lose weight. Try to see the positive in all of this and it will come much easier to you. Ok Phil. Are we ready to start? No time like the present. I haven't got any ice cream left in the house and I'm not going to buy anymore either. I'm sick so I guess this is as good of a time as any to begin cutting back on what I eat. I'm trying to drink more water as well. Are you still with me?
