Jazz, unless you're rolling he patches up, sticking them in your mouth & setting fire to them, you have quit smoking and you aren't cheating. Yes, the 21 mg patches probably give you a similar amount of nicotine as when you were smoking, but you don't stay at 21mgs. That's the whole point, you slowly decreas the amount of nicotine you get until you're down to none. In the meantime, you teach yourself to do without it, to reward yourself in meaningful ways, to deal with stress & other emotions more constructively, and so on. Every quit is different and you have to do what's right for you. But, remember, as long as you are not smoking, you are a non-smoker. I would recommend that, since you started with the patch, you finish the program, but it really is up to you and we're here for all quitters, regardless of how they choose to quit. I am currently on week 9 with the patch and to be quite honest don't know how my quit would have been without it. From what I heard it lessens the cravings and the moodiness ( I missed 1 day from the patch b/x I forgot in my 4th week and had to fight tooth and nail not to smoke that day-so i have a feeling that it works) It weans you off the nicotine, but I would hardly call it cheating. It is more of an aid or assistant to help quit smoking. I recommend the patch b/c it worked for me, and you will have to find what works for you but make sure you have an action plan in place so that you don't smoke. If you are doing the patch, I recommend following it's every single step. Remember it is better to be on the patch than it is to be smoking, so good luck with that! I think the patch is definitely helping with the cravings. I know everyone craves and withdraws differently, and there certainly have been some bumps to jump over this past week, but I still feel pleased with the progress my husband and I have made this week. I knew obviously that we were still getting nicotine from the patches, but I was really surprised at the amount that we were still getting. I thought it might be the equivalent to 2-3 cigs, not 21. Jazz, We all need to do what we need to do, to quit. If that means the patch for you, than great, do it. This quit is hard enough, you don't need to put a guilt trip on yourself too. A ton of people have quit using the patch. Its a great way to wean yourself off the nicotine without driving yourself crazy. You keep up the good work and keep coming here for help. There are so many people here that give out the greatest advise and help. I would not have been able to quit without them. Best of Luck to you My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 313 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,825 Amount Saved: $1,565.00 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 5 Mins: 13 Seconds: 9

Jazz, there is more than one way to skin a cat. The end result is what we are all working for...Whatever you choose to do, follow the directions on the box to make sure you wean yourself off right. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 365 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,475 Amount Saved: $1,533.00 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 16 Mins: 53 Seconds: 16

Jazz, You're not cheating at all. The patch was created to wean you slowly off the nicotine. Believe me I have quit many many times, and I would not be here if I hadn't followed the patch program to the wire. (Remember the stewardess in the TV commercials, I was worse than her without the patch!) The patch program is there to help make the withdrawal symptoms easier. There are lots of us who used it! There are some who went off too early and had trouble, so use it to your advantage, stick to the plan and get it done! It doesn't matter what you use to quit, what matters is you quit. And remember the patch is nicotine only, there are over 400 chemicals in cigarettes, (of which nicotine is only one) You are still freeing your body from all that other poison! Stick with it, you will do just fine! Just my opinion, but I think in order to "cheat", you have to sneak a cigarette. Give yourself a big Hug Jazz. What you accomplished is no easy feat - patch or not Moss My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/19/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 50 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 750 Amount Saved: $168.75 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 3 Mins: 13 Seconds: 45
