Lea, You met me and others here. We're all of different faiths or not. It is not our duty to judge or to be intolerant. Just "do unto others" and "treat people the way you'd like to be treated". Simple respect. I thank you for being open-minded. Della

Hi Della, Thanks for your post. I had never looked at it from that angle before. I guess I just tie it to the her becoming catholic because her and her partner were pushing me so hard to become catholic as well. She got christened and everything but only became catholic because this guy she met was catholic (he was well off, so I have my suspicions as to why she really became catholic). I stopped all contact with her after her cruel comments and that was almost two years ago but it still hurts quite a bit. Her partner was born catholic etc etc and was very judgemental of things I did he even told me doing yoga was evil, I found it helped to relax me!! So I had the same attitude from both of them and he had been catholic all his life. I guess I tied what religion means to the way they were behaving and decided I wanted no part of it and ultimately that contributed to the end of our long friendship - I was somehow common and unpure and no longer on 'their level'. I think when I saw Sovereign's post saying Christ is the only way, it really hit a nerve because of my dealings with my old friend. Unfortunately when it comes to religious people I haven't met one nice person yet although I'm sure there are people out there who practice what they preach and are good people. Thanks for your insight into this. :)

Lea, I am of the Catholic faith. Born, Christened, my 1st Communion, Confirmation and Married in the Catholic Church. My daughter was christened a Catholic. I'm sorry to hear about how your friend treated you. It sounds as though she went through a lot of changes, but believe me, she didn't do it just because she started going to the Catholic church. Just because you go to Mass, doesn't automatically make you a Catholic. If you visit a Mosque are you a Muslim? It sounds as though your friend became rude. I'm sorry your 22 year frienship went South. Why would you want to continue to be friends with her? Let her continue to have her "faith". One day she'll be left to explain why she wants in the Pearly Gates. This wasn't meant to become a religious issue, but I felt I had to defend the comments that you think she took a "holier than thou attitude" because she turned Catholic. She just turned mean spirited. Have a good day, Della

Lea, I understand completely what you are saying. Its very unfortunate that people will misconstrue what the Bible teaches. You are supposed to unconditionally love and not judge! So I am in complete agreement with that part of your post. I also would like to tell you that you DO have hope and that you DO NOT have to live with this disorder for the rest of your life! If you only knew what I have been through as well! I understand the feelings of hopelessness and fears that go along with it. I also am a person that has learned to love people so much more as a result of having this affliction. So when I get excited about my faith in Jesus, its only because of what He has done in my life that I want to share with others. If you do not believe in God, that is your choice and I respect that. Just know that my intent was to only help! LOL! ;)

Sovereign - for those who are not religious and have panic disorder, saying that Christ is the ONLY solution kind of leaves me feeling completely helpless and thinking that I'm obvioulsy doomed to have this for the rest of my life. It's great if there are people out there who can find comfort in religion and it helps them through this, I'm really happy for them but some of us did not find comfort in religion. As an example, through one of the worst times with my panic disorder my best friend of 22yrs had recently turned catholic. She became incredibly judgemental and even called me 'crazy'. Not the least bit understanding and even said I was not welcome at her wedding as in her words I did not have what she had and she would feel uncomfortable with me there. She was a nicer person before she converted! As you can imagine I was very hurt by this particularly at such a low point in my life. That attitude I have seen in several 'religious' people and I don't see how that helps at all. I thought it was all about kindness and caring about others etc etc. I spent a while reading the bible and went to church and found no comfort at all, I found it made things worse. So maybe it isn't for everyone! Slinky I also did not go on medication for a long long time. I tried all the natural medicines and found they didn't help. In the end I went on meds 2mths ago and they have helped a bit. My partner is convinced they work in a big way, mainly making me calmer, I'm still not sure if I notice that big a difference though. Luckily I'm not having any side effects and I'm on a low dose so I'll stick with it. I think its a matter of finding which medication works for you - what works for one person might not work for another. It might take time and trying various different meds to find out what works for you. Good Luck

Spriggy is right, Christ is the only solution. He has been healing me by showing me my identity in Him. But I will say that not all medication is bad. I have been taking wellbutrin for a couple of weeks now and it has helped me considerably! It seems to counteract the effects of a panic attack. You know that sudden rush of adrenalin and ephedrin that takes place with an attack? Well, that seems to have been lessened with this medication. It will give you dry mouth and you should not take MAOI's or anti-histimines while on the drug. I accidentally took comtrex and boy did it make me feel bad! I cannot even describe the feeling I had. Also, it takes a couple of weeks to start working. Hope this helps! ;)

Spriggy, I started taking Lexapro last week and it made me more anxious. I have a hard time relaxing all together. Did you feel this way? I felt like I was having a continous panic attack. Write back!

I hesitated for a loong time to go on medication. I tried the natural route first; vitamin B's, omega 3 fatty acids, st. John's wort, same-e, 5 htp. I tried them all and although they helped with some mild depression, they never helped my anxiety. So.. after lots of prayer, I finally decided to go the medicine route. I am now on 5 mg's of Lexapro (only my 2nd week on it though so not sure just yet if it's really helping), and also take a .25 Xanex (which I cut into half) as need for my attacks. My prayer is that after I get over this hump, I won't need medication. This is just a short term help for me while I learn how to cope in other ways. And yes, prayer and God are a huge help. I don't think I could've made it through a few weeks back without praying and reading my bible. God definitely sustained me!

Some medications can help, for me a lot of them have made my symptoms worse, do you know what is causing the panic and are you in therapy, common meds are prozac, paxil, lexapro, celexsa, clonopin just to name a few, as I said before medications are not for me, do you have depression also, with me my mom has schisphrenia and is in a behavior nursing home and that event triggered panic attacks for me, haven't had them for 7 years when my brother died and I got divorsed also the panic program in this program is very good, also a book from panic to power is very good and there is a program that goes with that, if you type in lucinda basset you will get to her home page, she got through axiety with out medication and has a program, blessings to you-- ooh also are you a christian, prayer and meditation help also, steacher
