daisiegrl, I have to agree with 3galeh!. During the first 4 weeks of my quit I gained 4 pounds. I'm on Jenny Craig. Last week, I got on my treadmill, ate healthy, but I made sure I didn't go hungry. I think that's the key, and I lost 4 pounds. I had something every few hours. And I really have a passion for the sugar free Werther's hard candies. I also drink plenty of water. Also stopped buying potato chips, etc. The one thing I will say though is that I give myself a "treat meal" once a week. Just to keep it interesting! Good luck, Cheers, Jan :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/27/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 925 Amount Saved: $314.50 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 6 Mins: 7 Seconds: 48

Hi daisegrl I quit and of course gained a few pounds. I joined LA Weight loss and lost 26 pounds and 16 inches. My point is, it CAN be done. No matter what weight loss program you join if you put as much effort into the diet as you did the quit you CAN do it!! Now I am maintaining and have been for 1 year. I have adopted my diet as a way of life. Its healthy eating and has helped make me feel even better than I did when I quit smoking. Good luck to you I know you can do this. I used to be with Weight Watchers and now I'm with Jenny Craig. The concept is the same...healthy eating. I'm anxious to see if I can continue to take weight off as well. I've lost 15 pounds so far. And if there's one thing JC advocates, its water, water and more water! I also watched a clip on the local Toronto news that states 3 cups of green tea a day aids in weight loss. Something to do with thermogenics.(Not sure what that is, but if it works, hey...) Working towards being healthier and happier. I'm not with weight watchers, but I am trying to eat healthy to reduce the chances for weight gain. If I fail at the weight part I figure I'll deal with that in good time - this time I want to breath first. My favourite snacks are grape tomatoes, green tea, green tea, fibre one cereal with cinamone, and more green tea. dasie - I did the same thing. Quitting smoking does tend to slow your metobilsm for about 6 months, so if you don't see much on the scale at the meetings in that time, just be patient, and don't think that smoking again will make it all alright! I was on WW when I quit, and when it got to rough, i quit WW - amd nurtured my quit. I gained A LOT of weight. Now i'm back at WW, and just got my first 10 pound loss ribbon, and my loss is going just as fast as everyone else and my metaolism seems to be just fine. Point is - If you can manage to stay at WW while you quit - then be VERY grateful if you can maintain for the next few months! You will have done far far better than I! Also - if it happens to go the other direction, don't beat yourself up about it - it's normal and it doesn't last forever!! Yeah that counting the points requires a full time bookeeper. I try to write it down and then get sidetracked on the extras like 2 spoonfuls of dressing and a dab of sour cream. Maybe I should go to the Core plan but I do like bread, rice etc. I only have 10 lbs to lose should be easybut I lose 2 and gain 1 been doing it since Oct. Also the rain has kept me from walking lately haven't tried the Mall walker thing. Hi dasiegrl, Congrats on your day 7!! You may find it helpfull to use distractions when trying to quit smoking while maintaining a healthy weight. You could chew on gum, or a chew stick. It's also helpfull to keep healthy snack available, like fruits and vegetables and you should try and drink plenty of water. Keep up the great work! Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator
