Any addition is a hard one to beat. I know coffee is a big one and I am very lucky to not be on the coffee wagon full time. I enjoy a cup here and there, same with diet pop...but we all have different addictions. I think the key to remember here is that with any addiction...you can overcome it if you want to...be preapred and set your mind on it. I am aware of how many people have quit coffee in the past or at least decreased the dosage. Either way it can be beat but at least it's not as bad as some of the many other addictions. Remember we all need a lot of water to stay hydrated, so go ahead and drink how ever much coffee you want but make sure you are flushing it all right out by the amount of water you drink. Getting your 8 glasses in a day can be challenging but it is definetely worth it. Oh and from what I have heard or read green tea is amazing for you so try to get more of it into your daily routine. I am going to try and have at least a cup a day and see if I notice a difference...will post about it if I notice anything. Maybe if you wean yourself slowly by going to 1/2 caf and then decaf? I always drink the half caf cuz the real stuff gets me so wired people probably think I'm a crack-head. This week I had tea three days. I had coffee this morning cuz I had to get up early and I was soooo tired. I'll stick to tea over the weekend. No can do! I love my coffee! I refused to give it up when I quit smoking and it still is my favorite wake up drink. Hubby does tea, so its here if I want, but I only drink 2-3 cups of coffee a day, so I don't notice any jitters or such. (Theres nothing better than coffee on the deck on an early summer's morning!) Hi Guys, Yes, I quit coffee when I stopped smoking because of the donkey's years of association with caffeine and nicotine. And it worked well until 3 days ago when i started up with the coffee again... the first day was fine... no increased trigger-action , the next day also fine, but, this MORNING I went right back into addictive mode and made the coffee at triple strength and found myself not only with major tremors but with a major speed-rush going on where I was snappy and crabby and a generalized d***head, and I bit into my poor wife's ankles over the phone about nothing. When I told her that I deliberately made super strong coffee she understood but I won't be forgiven until tomorrow... she doesn't take ankle-biting quietly... my VERY bad. So, yeah, I'm making tea tomorrow and I'll forego the coffee until I have a better handle on what is reasonable in this Quit.... What a good discussion. I'm here with the excuses, too, I guess. I was waiting to finish off the coffee I have in the house before I quit. I love the hot liquid in the morning and still enjoy scalding the back of my throat for some strange reason. When I first quit smoking I would swallow the coffee hot so I could get a really good burn. For me giving up coffee is a must if I want to stay quit. Also during a previous quit I was injected by a doctor with some don't really know what, told me that during at least the first six months to eliminate coffee completely. I also gave up alcohol this time around. I didn't make a conscious decision about the alcohol but - alcohol going direct to fat and with my weight increase from previous quits still around my waist I felt that I could also live without alcohol. To be honest neither the coffe nor the alcohol is a problem. However, I do find that certain foods or wines that I like when smoking turn out to be pretty awful when I am not. I am still battling with 12 of the 15 kilos I gained during my last quit. If I do the same this time it will soon be easier to jump over me than walk around me. Hummm, Coffee, Diet Soda, Dr Pepper. All have caffeine. I really like the Salada Green tea, I know that if you drink tea to make sure it is green tea so going that way. Need to get into the habbit of making tea instead of coffee. Setting my coffee quit date for March 3rd. Have a few major photo shoots before then and don't want to be cranky in front of those customers..... Gosh, it sounds just like I am quitting smoking again huh??!! Go John go! I did it for 13 Days earlier this month (no caffeine at all) and then had a cup or two just to enjoy and it is so much better. I've had a cup the last couple of mornings to kick-start things but I'm finding that it is creating a cycle I don't want to get back into again. It also keeps me up for a lot longer and I don't like that either. Its funny though because during those 13 Days I had "triggers" just like with smoking. I'd wake up, go to make coffee and have to remind myself I wasn't doing that anymore. It made me glad I was doing it though because I don't like the idea of being dependant on anything again.
