Sweetie I absolutely agree with EVERYTHING Denise wrote. I too am on anti depressants, anti anxiety med's and I thank God that they are available. I never ever think twice about using them or when I'll be able to get off of them because they have lifted me up to a level where I am a functioning person. I shiver to think where I'd be without them. So many people really don't 'get it' when it comes to these med's, but I could care less. Just as a side note I wanted to let you know that I wrote >>> in the Forum for New Users "Stressed, Nervous, Lack of Patience ...." I don't know if one or if any of these things may be helpful to you. I just wanted to share some of the things which have helped me. I'm here for you hon.. Plus I can see how many other's are just loving you up totally and are SO concerned about you :) You are a winner sweetie !!!!! Denise, I don't know how you knew that is how I was feeling, but you hit it right on the head. I was feeling like I was weak, that I wasn't able to pull myself out of this by myself, that there was something wrong with me. I guess having to admitt that you are an addict, then that you have a brain chemical imbalance problem kinda makes you feel like a failure. Looking at it from a different or professional perspective makes me feel better. Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it. A1, Even I, who works in the field, have had to take something for depression at one time or 3. It does not mean you are bad, or sick, or stupid, or weak, or any of those things you think in your head about "needing" medication. Thank heavens there ARE medications available today, in the past there was nothing to help people in these kind of situations. Even if you had to take the medication for a long time, there is NOTHING wrong with it, honest. It is truly a chemical imbalance in the brain, and you can not fix that just because you "hold your chin up" or "keep a stiff upper lip" or "stiffen up the spine"! The receptors in the brain don't care one way or the other. They just ARE. And if medicine helps that, GREAT! Go through the doors that medicine opens! Thank heavens there are MANY doors now. Please know that you are a wonderful, caring, friendly, and sympathetic person. You help others just by telling your story, and supporting others in their quits. Please, don't kick yourself for ANYTHING you need to help yourself feel GOOD! Not better, but GOOD! Life is wonderful, and you DESERVE to feel that way, too. OK? Kelly - No, you don't have to stay on Effexor (or any other anti-depressant) forever. Some people take it for 6 months, some for a year, and others for longer. Don't worry about figuring that out right now. Right now just focus on hanging in there and know that you do not need to be suffering this way and that you truly will be feeling better soon. This isn't just an empty promise or uninformed hope - I've been there, I understand! Just remember that once you get the medication, use it exactely as prescribed (e.g. take it at the same time every day and don't skip days!) Also, it may take some tweeking of dosage, etc. before the right recipe for you is figured out. But be patient because it WILL get figured out. It really will! So you were able to get off of it then? It wasn't permanant? that is what I am worried about. Thanks for your advise changing, it has helped sooooo much today, I can't even tell you. I have tears running down my face right now for no reason at all...I hate feeling this way. I am NOT however, smoking, so that is fantastic. A1 - I'm soooo glad you spoke with your doctor about how you're feeling. Effexor sounds like a great option. I've taken Effexor in the past and it was very helpful in treating many of my symptoms. So, keep holding on -- it can & will get better! My Dr. prescribed me Effexor yesterday, my pharmacy is out, so I won't be able to pick it up until tonight after work. I just seem to be crying so much lately, I have read all the old posts saying that this is pretty normal and it will pass, but I am trying everything to make sure I don't cave. Thanks for checking on me changing, I have really been down the past few days, I am pulling myself up I think by helping myself out this way and taking it really easy on myself. If anybody can let me know if they had to take anti depressants for awhile, it sure would be helpful. :( My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 119 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,570 Amount Saved: $446.25 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 17 Mins: 22 Seconds: 17
